Covering Amman Design Week was a very full circle moment for me, back in the city I called home for two years, participating in the revival of an event that showcased the thriving Arab design scene - across the neighborhoods like Weibdeh and Jabal Amman that I know and adore, to new corners of the country like the ruins of Iraq Al-Amir.

Have you ever wielded a glass ring?

I never thought I’d be sat in this cozy, friendly studio surrounded by colorful glass pieces working with transparent glass.

Flames so hot you can feel it touching your cheeks with its delicate fingers.

Tongs in one hand, twisting and turning while trying not to melt the glass to the point you cannot shape.

As I moved the tongs, revolving the glass in a circular motion, it was challenging to see where the glass began and where it ended.

With the help of the friendly workshop lead, she taught me how to bend the glass elegantly, while the flames danced around melting it in place.

I felt like a scientist wearing protective eye lenses on top of my own.

It was such a wonderful sisterly activity where we both switched off our minds and immersed ourselves in the calmness of working with our hands.

I would highly recommend this activity when visiting Amsterdam ✨ Close up picture taken using Canon Zoom features of a transparent glass ring being wielded using blue fire.
