Lately I’ve been enjoying a longer fall than expected here on the east side. While the temps are slowly starting to drop, I’m enjoying the snow free trails, because they will begin to get covered here real soon. 👀

BREAKING: the ferritin floor just doubled. 🙌

For 30 years my labs said normal at a ferritin of 7 to 18. They were wrong. Iron deficiency is shockingly common in women and teenage girls, and it causes real symptoms, fatigue, brain fog, feeling winded doing things that should be easy. ASH just raised the diagnostic threshold, which means faster answers and faster treatment for way more women.

I didn’t get an effective treatment for my own iron deficiency until I was 45 (iron infusions worked for me) and part of that was the established ranges for one of the markers of deficiency- ferritin - were way too low.

Have any of these symptoms? Talk to your doctor. Get the tests. Advocate for infusions of the other treatments don’t work.

Pulse Check 👌

Time to trade dry trails, talus, and altitude for wet roots, technical terrain, and humidity.

I’m headed to @ragged75and50k this weekend to race the 50K. Coming off a few big training weeks, we’re not heading into this one fully rested, so I’m excited to spin the legs a little faster and get a small pulse check on where the fitness is. More than anything, I’m looking forward to learning what racing in humidity feels like before heading to Europe. Hopefully, it’s the kind of effort that adds a little spark as I enter the final phase of my CCC build.

When it came to picking a race to break up the training block, this one landed at the perfect time. It gave me enough room to put together a solid block beforehand and still have time for one more after, before I head to Europe for the biggest, baddest 100K in the world.

Additionally from everything I’ve heard, Ragged is a very tough course, which is exactly what I was looking for. 😤😮‍💨It’s been a few years since I’ve raced on the East (Beast 👾) Coast, and some of the most technical terrain in the U.S. lives out there. Overall it seems like the kind of race that will put some grit in your soul when all is said and done.

Thanks @nutritionalrevolution for the fueling plan for race day. I’ll be drinking @never.second C90 all day 👌
