Truly a family owned and operated situation over here 😂

It’s not uncommon to see a kiddo of ours (or two or three or four 😂) working at the shop some days during the summer and pro d days. They love working the til, pricing and merchandising 😂

Take a look here to see the kids’ fav shop picks!

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to honour the original stewards of this land. A day to celebrate the cultures that have shaped it since time immemorial.

Ucluelet is the anglicized version of the Nuu-chah-nulth word Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ (which means Ucluelet First Nations). It has commonly been translated as ‘People of the Safe Harbour’ or, historically, ‘Dwellers of the Protected Place Inside’. The Ucluth peninsula was inhabited by the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ as far back as 4,300+ years ago.

One of Nuu-chah-nulth’s primary teachings is c̓awaaksamin’ or ‘Everything is one.’ The land and the sea gave them food and supported their livelihood and culture.

When you visit Ucluelet, we encourage you to learn about the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ peoples’ rich traditions by visiting the Kwisitis Visitors Center. Here, you can listen to stories of the First Nations of this coast, explore a replica of a First Nations longhouse and whale hunt, and so much more.

Explore indigenous-made art, support indigenous-owned businesses, join initiatives that help preserve and nurture this land, and listen to and see the language through a new series of interpretive signs along the Ancient Cedars section of the Wild Pacific Trail. This meaningful initiative honours Indigenous knowledge, language, and the enduring relationship between people and forest ecosystems that have shaped this region for millennia.

When you immerse yourself in an authentic indigenous experience, you’re not just booking a trip but supporting sovereignty, choosing truth, and stepping into something real.

We are so honoured to carry a number of local Indigenous artists creations and when Jess @blackbirdbrandphotos popped in to take some more photos we just had to feature our Indigenous jewellery artists

Just an FYI, all of our beaded jewellery are handmade by local Indigenous creatives. And in response to the question, is it ok to wear Indigenous jewellery if you are not Indigenous, the answer is ABSOLUTELY.

When you invest in pieces that have been made by Indigenous artists, you are supporting culture that goes back hundreds of years as well as taking wearable artistic masterpieces with you wherever you go

And our newest local Indigenous youth artists Shay who upcycled and transforms vintage spoons into the coolest rings and earrings

We’re open today from 11-3 so pop on in on your holiday Monday!
