A first solo project that reads like the outdoors moved indoors.

@1stdibs Introspective features a Manhattan duplex by @guntonmark, the top two floors of an 1840s Greek Revival townhouse and his first project on his own. Working with @nvdesignarchitecture, he shifted walls to open the sight lines and pull light deep into the apartment.

Mark pictures rooms as a pond, a meadow, a forest clearing, and the interiors follow: reclaimed heart pine floors, a salvaged Edwardian fireplace surround, a Cocteau inspired mural at the entry, and a mix of midcentury Italian and Scandinavian finds. Large new windows at the rear turn the terrace and an ivy-covered wall into the view.

Proof that a first project can arrive fully formed.

In the arid hills of Oaxaca, architecture is shaped as much by climate as by form. Casa Cielo, designed by @nvdesignarchitecture and completed in 2025, transforms nearly 4,000 sq ft (≈370 m²) into a contemporary interpretation of regional living, where monumental geometry meets environmental intelligence.

A sequence of sculptural barrel vaults carved in exposed concrete defines the residence, but its greatest achievement lies beyond its striking silhouette. Deep courtyards, perforated screens, cross ventilation, thermal mass, and carefully calibrated daylight work together to reduce energy demand while creating interiors that remain naturally cool beneath the Mexican sun. Every architectural decision responds to place before image.

Locally crafted timber, stone, artisanal finishes, and a restrained material palette reinforce the project's connection to Oaxaca's building culture, while expansive openings frame the surrounding mountains as an extension of the living spaces. Rather than dominating the landscape, the house settles into it, demonstrating how contemporary architecture can elevate regional identity through performance, craftsmanship, and timeless spatial quality.

Amazing day yesterday to kick off a new project on a very unique little roof terrace. Staff are enjoying the challenge of this very sloped roof. We are excited to be collaborating with NV/Design Architecture #blueplantnyc #roofterrace #porcelinpavers #nv/design.architectue

The overall size and details of this #custom banquette’s seat, base and legs are identical throughout, while the back is asymmetrical and inset further on the left-face side. This subtle interplay between symmetry and asymmetry makes the piece more interesting to the eye. #jandp_upholstery #thehighartofhandcraftedfurniture
