- To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, this work reflects on the meaning of the Taegukgi and the harmony it represents hoping that we, in the present, may once again unite and live in mutual coexistence. The yin and yang of the Taegeuk symbolize balance embodying the unity and sacrifice that led to liberation, and the harmony and peace we continue to pursue today. The lettering for “Taeguk” was created by rearranging the geometric forms of the four trigrams, and expressed with rough textures and ink bleeding inspired by the woodblock-printed Taegukgi of the independence movement. It also incorporates the original handwriting of phrases like “Daehan Dongnip” (Korean Independence) and “Self-Reliance,” taken from historical Taegukgi flags used by figures like Ahn Jung-geun and the Korean Liberation Army. Through this, the work aims to preserve historical authenticity while honoring the spirit and determination of those who fought for freedom.
