Every now and then a name surfaces that makes you wonder how he wasn't already at the Division I level. Jesse Van Kalsbeek is one of those names.

The 6'7 sophomore forward was named the 2026 NAIA Player of the Year after putting together about as dominating a campaign as a player could assemble at Northwestern College.

Now he's headed to South Dakota State, and the Jackrabbits may have just landed one of the most undervalued players this offseason.

Van Kalsbeek led the Raiders with 27.8 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 61.2% overall and 41.2% from beyond the arc on 34 attempts. He had three 40-point games in true dominating fashion. Against William Penn, he finished with 47 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists with just two turnovers.

What makes him unique isn't just the metrics, it's the skill set. Van Kalsbeek is a monster scorer and a prolific rebounder. At 6'7, he's unafraid of slashing into the paint and does so with ease, moving at nearly guard-level speed.

With a potential NCAA five-year eligibility on the horizon, we may get two or even three seasons of a player who has the potential to become a star at the Division I level.
