[When watching Following with a modern perspective and for the first time, and with knowledge of Christopher Nolan's later films such as Memento, Inception, and Tenet, this debut film feels like an early sketch of the auteur he would become. The film contains many of the themes and narrative techniques that would later define his work, but here they feel less polished and more experimental — almost as if he used the film as a testing ground for his ideas. Following is a fascinating artifact from the beginning of Christopher Nolan's career. It serves as a glimpse into the mind of a filmmaker who had not yet found his full voice but was already experimenting with ideas that would later revolutionize modern cinema]
