@ferriswhiskey here ahead of my exhibition @contactphotonyc that opens this Saturday. Here are some pictures from what I guess is the antithesis of the work that I’m showing in NYC, my series and now photobook Rain Rain Go.

I shot this on the way to an @nycspc crit at the Soho Photo Gallery in 2018 (before I was a member). I had no idea how much this collective and the people in it would matter to me. I think about that all the time, but especially whenever I look at this picture 😍

I didn’t love any of the pictures I took in 2021 but I loved shooting every shitty one of them. Here are a few B sides I haven’t posted here before. I hope you enjoy them. And have a happy healthy 2022 🥂

Addendum: I’m so sick of looking at that clown every time I open my Instagram. If for no other reason than moving him down the page I’ll be posting more 😂

Brooklyn bodegas. I’ve been building up a little series over the last year or so. My photography practice is rooted in walking around, and especially during the worst of the pandemic, I was only able to go as far as I was willing to walk. Being circumscribed in such a way forces you to look at what’s around you. And you can’t go a block or so without seeing a deli. I love how they are both ubiquitous and yet idiosyncratic. (Although this is under threat with the expansion of organic markets and the like…looking at you Andrew Yang!) As NYC continues to change and trend towards corporate homogeneity, bodegas are something to treasure and celebrate while they’re still as common as they are and to highlight their importance to the community and the opportunities they provide, as well as to fight for their future. Let me know your thoughts below and if you have a favorite in this set.
