🔍 According to Benedet & Gent, overgeneralized compliance increases susceptibility to grooming and erodes self-protective instincts.
💔 Cazone (2022) reports 9 in 10 autistic AFAB individuals will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. It’s time to change how we teach “following directions.”

In this peer group, we’ll:

📣 Dear white people: Telling Black people that you are “color blind” — meaning you “don’t see color” — may seem like a way to express that you treat everyone equally, but it’s actually problematic for several reasons:

1️⃣ It erases identity.
Being Black isn’t just a color; it’s a cultural, historical, and lived experience. Saying you “don’t see color” can feel like you’re ignoring a vital part of someone’s identity — one that shapes how they navigate the world.

2️⃣ It ignores systemic racism.
Racism isn’t just about individual prejudice; it’s embedded in systems — from education and healthcare to housing and policing. If you “don’t see color,” you also risk not seeing the inequalities and injustices that disproportionately affect Black people.

3️⃣ It centers white comfort.
“Color blindness” often comes from a desire to avoid discomfort. But real allyship means being willing to see, name, and challenge racism — not pretending it isn’t there.

4️⃣ Equality is not equity.
Treating everyone the same (what color blindness implies) isn’t justice. Equity means recognizing and addressing the different barriers people face because of race — and you can’t do that if you claim not to see race.

✅ Instead of saying “I don’t see color,” try saying:
“I see your identity and value it.”
“I’m working to understand how race and racism impact people’s lives.”
“I’m committed to listening and standing against racial injustice.”

Dr. Damian Milton identified the Double Empathy Problem in 2012, challenging how we view communication between autistic and non-autistic people. Instead of seeing autism as a communication deficit, this theory recognizes a mutual mismatch in communication styles.

The real issue? Autistic people are expected to understand and adapt to non-autistic communication, but that same effort isn't expected in return. Communication difficulties aren't just "autistic people lacking social skills" - they're a two-way misunderstanding rooted in different ways of experiencing the world.

My Boundary-Communication Model offers a potential solution. This approach moves beyond rigid social scripts to develop flexible, responsive social skills that honor everyone's boundaries and communication styles. The model emphasizes:

- Mutual respect and understanding
- Authentic rather than scripted interactions
- Embracing diverse communication styles
- Creating inclusive environments
- Allowing for healthy conflict and resolution

True social skills aren't coercive - they're invitational. They should be flexible and responsive to individual and community needs while encouraging meaningful engagement.

Pro+Social engagement requires upfront effort and investment, but creates pathways from awareness and acceptance to genuine belonging. When we recognize that communication is bidirectional, we can develop skills that respect boundaries based on fundamental rights for all involved.

Remember: social scripts are shortcuts that can speed up communication, but when rigidly followed, they cause harm. The Boundary-Communication Model helps all parties communicate effectively while respecting neurodiversity as a natural state rather than a pathology.
