Denouncing Panopticism — backstage moments from show day.

This collection was always intended to be a love letter to my community. What I never expected was to witness the very community I set out to serve being created before my eyes.

On show day, I watched two casts of Black models come together as new friendships formed, conversations unfolded, card games were played, and moments of genuine connection flourished. More than anything, that became the true success of this collection.

Being surrounded by such inspiring, generous, and unique people was the greatest privilege. They became the conduits for my vision while creating something far greater than I could have imagined.

These are just a few backstage moments from one of the most joyful, influential, and affirming days of my life.

To everyone who walked, supported, encouraged, created, and believed in me—thank you. This was ours as much as it was mine. ❤️

Thank you to @azurmele for these incredible pictures

As a young Black girl growing up in rural Pennsylvania, I learned that racial violence operates not only through spectacle, but through silence, through what is never required to be known or seen. This work rejects the systems that police Black memory, body, and spirit. Dress becomes a site of liberation, resistance, and reclamation. Through slow construction, I challenge capitalist urgency and Western respectability, employing shells, raffia, and natural fibers tied to diasporic survival and cosmology. Transforming collective memory into archive and the body into testimony, this work centers lived joy while rejecting histories of surveillance, criminalization, and erasure.⁣
