🇪🇺 #CharterNET is starting.

What does the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights mean in practice? And how can we make fundamental rights better understood, protected and applied in our communities?

These are some of the questions that CharterNET will explore over the next two years, bringing together organisations from 8 European countries to share experiences, discuss challenges and work on concrete solutions.

The first international meeting is coming up, and France is next. 🇫🇷

📍 Sarreguemines & Strasbourg
Hosted by our Collectif, the first Multiplier Panel will bring together participants from across the CharterNET network for three days of discussions and exchanges around fundamental rights.

This is just the beginning.💪

The EU recognises the relevance of our recommendations for a stronger role for democracy and human rights. 🇪🇺

We are pleased to have received a response from the Office of Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to our EU for Global final report, Citizens Shaping Europe.

The response highlights that several of the report’s recommendations speak to ongoing EU efforts — including advancing the EU’s global role in promoting democracy and human rights, as well as strengthening resilience against disinformation and digital threats through initiatives such as the European Democracy Shield.

27 August: Morning Briefing from Mykolaiv med Jakob Torrild Hansen 🇺🇦 [Event in Danish]

The Foreign Policy Society U35, Nyt Europa, and the European Debate Initiative (EDI) invite you to a morning briefing on Thursday, August 27, where we will be joined by Jakob Torrild Hansen, who for the past two years has served as head of Denmark’s embassy office and reconstruction efforts in Mykolaiv. You may have heard that Denmark had a presence in the city, but what does this effort actually look like?

Jakob will first give us insight into life on the front lines, the difference Denmark has made in this southern Ukrainian city, and why the effort in Mykolaiv is now referred to as “the Danish model”—one that other countries are now drawing inspiration from.

This will be followed by a discussion moderated by Felipe Branner, vice chair of U35, as well as time for questions from the audience.

Look forward to a morning of personal stories and a deep dive into one of Denmark’s most important foreign policy initiatives.

We’ll be serving croissants and coffee to all registered attendees.

Program:

8:30–8:45 Welcome, Pastries, Coffee
8:45–9:15 Presentation by Jakob Torrild Hansen
9:15–9:35 Moderated discussion
9:35–10:00 Q&A
10:00 Event concludes.
The event is held with support from Tuborg Fondet.

The event takes place at Dronningensgade 68. Limited spaces, sign up via link in bio.

What does meaningful participation in climate action look like in practice?

Mubarak Masae shares an example from Bolivia, where decisions around lithium and other natural resources are closely linked to public benefit and the protection of Indigenous history, language and heritage.

Through Citizens for Climate, we explore experiences from different countries and how participatory approaches can give people a meaningful role in shaping climate decisions.

Happy #EuropeDay 🇪🇺 ! And what better way to mark it than reflecting on what democratic Europe looks like in action!

Last week in Brussels, we gathered around one central question: how do we expand what "possible" looks like in climate action?

For two days, Ashoka Fellows, Young Changemakers, and narrative experts from around the world came together for the Ashoka Junction on Climate Narratives: focused conversations organized by Ashoka Participation Hub and Ashoka People and Planet on how to turn eco-anxiety into agency, and make pro-nature decisions the political norm rather than the exception.

On the third day, we opened the conversation beyond our community.

As part of the Citizens4Climate program, an EU-funded project active in 7 European countries, we welcomed practitioners, policymakers, and citizens for a hands-on session on participatory climate governance.

Four projects showed us their experience and best practices:

🌿 The Bridge – Adélaide Charlier

⚖️ Klimaatzak / Affaire Climat – Ignace Schops

🗳️ G1000 – Ben Erseels

🤝 SustyVibes – Jennifer Uchendu

Our breakout groups surfaced four pathways forward: co-creative models that go beyond consultation; a fast and fair transition grounded in regional pilots; bridging the parliament gap between assemblies and accountability; and radical inclusivity that puts the most vulnerable voices at the center of solutions.

The tools we explored are real and concrete, and they will be reported in the Climate Participation Booklet, a Europe-wide guide to participatory climate governance.

Citizens are ready. It's time to give them a real seat at the table. ✊

Thank you to everyone who joined, challenged, and contributed: from Junction participants to every citizen who walked through the door.
