As You Like It — The Classical Studio at NYU
Directed by Daniel Spector and Laura Zablit

It was a complete honor to learn and work on this play alongside 13 other incredibly talented peers and a group of wildly transformational teachers. I’ll miss it forever.

Spent the spring behind the light/sound board of a 30-performance run of As You Like It, when I got the honor of watching the 14 classical studio ensemble members GROW, SO, MUCH. What an honor to get to witness. Their artistry inspires me. Co-directing with my former teacher from way back, Daniel Spector, was a gift. Okay yalla byyyyyyyye

Production Spotlight: AS YOU LIKE IT by William Shakespeare • Devised by The Classical Studio • March 4th - May 7th, 2026 • The Paulson Center Studio 5A

About the show: This 30 show collaboration between The Classical Studio and Production and Design costume students grounds the Shakespeare play through the use of texture, shape and color. Beginning in Duke Frederick’s vibrant court, we soon learn things are more hostile than they seem. To escape this tyranny, our cast flees to Forest of Arden - a place where people and things are discarded. Plot lines of sibling rivalry, unrequited love, gender bending, and building community are woven together amongst the trees. When all is seemingly complicated in Arden, our characters find clarity in what they truly desire.

I fu k ing hate old tropes of cinema and love.
the ones where “letting go” makes you noble,
and heartbreak earns you wisdom.

love isn’t an exit.
it’s the thing you keep doing
long after the story cuts to black.

it’s not the swelling music,
it’s the silence after.
the tiny decision to stay kind
when no one is watching.

she writes of spring and rain,
i still taste smoke and iron.

all good.
the city forgives
