POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Never before has the expression “we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors” reverberated with me so deeply. Last week, we celebrated the opening of NYU Grad Acting and Design For Stage and Film’s state of the art new theater: The African Grove with Carlyle Brown’s The African Company Presents Richard III.

It was truly a Meta moment for me. We did a play to pay homage to the company of actors, who paved the way for us. In a theater named after them. I had the honor to be the director of this beautiful cast, creative team and crew.

The work that @tyjonesnyc and I do @classicalharlem is a direct result of the work of The African Company. I could not be prouder of @nyutisch and @nyugradacting for paying tribute to these brilliant, brave and inspiring artists.

We open 2 weeks from today, PLUS @jyeagermusic and I have a new wedding video!! In all seriousness, I couldn’t be more honored to tell this story right now and to sing @barrymanilowofficial and @brucesussman’s beautiful score every~single~day. Proud to be a part of this urgent, important piece that has finally and so deservedly made it to Broadway.

It was wonderful to have NYU grad acting alum, Mackenzie Meehan visit my Techniques of Voice and Text class. Her observations about the work and how the class has helped her as a professional actor was invaluable for the current students! #nyugradacting #nyugradactingalumni #itsagaaa #voiceandspeechforactors #shaneannyounts #voicetraining #bullcbstv

SCAM screened last night in the awesome Haunted House Fear Festival, in the gorgeous Midnight Theater in Manhattan West Plaza, and I was surrounded by friends I love with all my heart. And Renee Huff programmed the HELL out of this inaugural festival, with gorgeous, hilarious horror films. Nights like this, man. All the love. Also the feature film, EVIL SUBLET was laugh out loud weird and hilarious, look for it ❤️ #HauntedHouseFearFest #horror #comedy #Scam #ScamShortFilm #friends

It’s tech over at @harmonyanewmusical, so I thought we should #tbt to the strangest tech process I ever had. Remember the horrors of pandemic Zoom theater? #throwbackthursday to 3rd year of grad school @nyugradacting. My whole beautiful class of actors and designers stuck in their apartments trying to make a thing. If you were one of the 4 people who saw “Red Noses,” I’m very sorry. But @jyeagermusic and I did manage to have a little fun. (OK, a lot of fun.) Meet the characters I created in front of a green sheet taped to my wall:
1. Dr. Antrechau, dead of plague after the opening monologue but working on his jazz clarinet in heaven
2. Marie, a working girl with big dreams of opening a nightclub and also finding a dentist with affordable rates
3. Sabine Patrice, gravedigger, songwriter, philosopher (Note, I did actually write this song.)

This was a weird time.
