When The Song Turns And Faces You

Sometimes, God speaks through songs.

You are there thinking it is for someone else.
You are singing boldly for your neighbour.
You are nodding like preacher.

Not knowing the message is locating you.

How coincidental can it be
that you are singing

“I have never seen the righteous forsaken
Or begging for bread”

and it feels like the song just turned
and faced you directly?

Because if you are honest,
there was a season you almost panicked.

A season where numbers were not smiling.
Where effort was not producing quickly.
Where you were calculating quietly.

You told yourself to stay calm.
You told yourself to have faith.

But deep down,
you were wondering how it would end.

Then you are in church.
Singing confidently.

“I have never seen the righteous forsaken.”

And something inside you whispers,

Have I ever left you?

You think about it.

There were tight days.
But you ate.

There were uncertain months.
But you survived.

There were silent battles.
But you did not collapse.

It may not have been luxury.
But it was provision.

It may not have been applause.
But it was grace.

And suddenly the song is no longer performance.

It is reminder.

Reminder that you were never abandoned.
Reminder that you were sustained.
Reminder that even in seasons that felt empty,
you were carried.

Maybe that is how God speaks sometimes.

Through melody.
Through lyrics.
Through a line you have sung a hundred times
until it finally sinks in.

You have never been forsaken.

And you will not start now.

Loud Love or Private Love? Just Be Loved Well.

Some people post everything.
Every win.
Every date.
Every “small small” moment.

Some people post nothing.
Not even anniversary.
You will not know if they are single or married.

And somehow, both sides think they are the mature ones.

One calls it intentional privacy.
The other calls it expressive love.

But let me say this clearly.

Whether you celebrate loud or silent,
I hope you are loved well at home.

Because noise does not equal happiness.
And silence does not equal peace.

You can post every day and still cry every night.
You can post nothing and still be deeply secure.

The real question is not how often you post.
The real question is what happens behind closed doors.

Are you safe?
Are you respected?
Are you heard?
Are you valued?

Love is not content.
Love is not performance.
Love is not a strategy.

Love is safety.
Love is peace.
Love is consistency.

As we celebrate this Valentine’s Day,
this is my prayer for you.

May you not just be chosen publicly but cherished privately.
May your home be a place of rest, not tension.
May you experience a love that is kind, steady and true.
May God give you the wisdom to discern what is real.
May He protect your heart from pretence.
May He surround you with people who love you genuinely.

Regardless of your marital status,
you deserve love that lasts
and peace that passes all understanding.

I HAVE A CONFESSION

Long before having apps like TikTok, Instagram, and others, we had Radio and TVs.

Well, for some of us that grew up in a home where having a TV set was seen as a "d3v1l's box" back then, radio was the alternative.

Where my confession lies is in the fact that music is truly a powerful tool.

Think of a situation where your parents only gave you music tapes of Don Moen and other gospel artists (or, for some, Tope Alabi and other Nigerian gospel artists).

You then realized how much they frowned at you shaking your head and body to the songs we classified as "Secular music." Borrowing this phrase from a song too: "music don't need permission to enter your body" (Hope I don't get castigated for this 🤣🤣).

So, back then, the radio station (for us who only had access to that) would play so many secular songs at different intervals, and before you knew it, we already knew all the songs' lyrics without having the tape or disc at home.

Fast forward to now, when every reel you scroll past features one of the songs you may never have on your phone, and which also falls under the class of "secular music."

The more you try to run away, the filling station close to your house is playing that "secular song," the barbing saloon at your backyard is playing the same.

The same goes for the Bolt driver playing that song, and for days when you enter a taxi or keke, it's the same set of songs you are hearing.

In between it all, you could just be in a prayer meeting and that random song will be the one playing in your head.

Anyways, you are not alone sha.
