Come along with us to experience firsthand a camping trip to the California coastline.

From milking goats and harvesting fresh ingredients to exploring tidepools and camping on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at @urbanpromiseacademy experienced an unforgettable time at @slide_ranch , discovering the connections between land, ocean, food, and community.

These experiences are about so much more than exploring a beautiful place. Time outdoors creates space for students to step outside their usual routines, discover new sides of themselves and their classmates, and build friendships and connections that carry back into the classroom. 💚

A huge thank you to our partners at @slide_ranch and the educators at Urban Promise Academy for making these unforgettable outdoor experiences possible!

Sometimes, the best medicine is time outdoors. 💚

For today’s #MondayMotivation, hear from Christsna Sot of @ufsaafterhours as he reflects on the transformative power of a recent camping trip to @pinnaclesnps!

From spotting California condors to camping under the stars and hiking through breathtaking landscapes, students experienced the wonder of nature while discovering new things about themselves and one another.

As Christsna shares, these experiences can be like medicine for students and teachers alike. Time outdoors creates space to step outside comfort zones, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and connect in ways that aren’t always possible inside the classroom.

Learning Beyond the Classroom!

A small group of our 6th and 7th grade scholars recently set sail with Call of the Sea for an unforgettable day on the Bay!

Our scholars got hands-on opportunities to learn about marine life, the Bay Area ecosystem, sailing, and what it means to work together as a team. From navigating the water to learning how the boat moves, they experienced science, teamwork, and exploration in a whole new way.

A special shoutout to Oakland Goes Outdoors (OGO) and our Black Thriving Schools Initiative TSA for helping create opportunities for our scholars to get outside, explore, and experience learning beyond the four walls of the classroom.

And of course, HUGE appreciation to our amazing teachers and parent chaperones who showed up, supported our scholars, and helped make the day happen. 🙌🏾

This is what Black Thriving looks like: creating rich experiences where our scholars can explore, learn, connect, and see themselves as scientists, environmentalists, leaders, and so much more.

Learning. Exploring. Thriving.

For today’s #MondayMotivation, hear @elmhurstunited Curt Douglas share about what happens when students and educators get to spend time together outside the classroom.

Outdoor experiences create space to connect in different ways, build trust, and strengthen relationships. And those connections don’t end when the trip does. They come back to school, helping shift classroom dynamics and creating a stronger foundation for learning together.

It’s a powerful reminder that the impact of time outdoors can reach far beyond the trip itself.
