At 42 years old, I can still hear my father’s voice.
I can still sit across from him.
I can still ask him questions, and on Fathers Day my Father is still here.
.
And yet my children, some of them still very young, no longer have theirs.
There is something about that reality that I cannot make peace with.
Not today.
Maybe someday.
But not today.
.
Because Father’s Day is supposed to be for children who still get to have their dad.
Instead, I am watching my children learn how to live without theirs.
I am watching them grow farther away from the sound of his voice.
Farther away from the memories.
.
Farther away from the life they were supposed to have.
And the unfairness of it all is impossible to ignore.
I still have a father.
My children lost theirs before they were grown.
.
My children do not simply know that their father died.
They know he was not taken by disease.
They know he was not taken by old age.
They know he was not taken by an accident.
.
In the way children understand difficult things, they know their father had something to do with his own death.
And they live with the possibility that he chose to leave.
That reality follows them into every birthday, every milestone, and every Father’s Day.
.
My youngest four children will spend most of their lives trying to remember a father they barely got the chance to know.
Because children are supposed to have decades with their dad.
Not a handful of years.
Not memories that fade before adulthood.
.
They were supposed to have more time.
Years of hearing his voice from another room.
Years of waking up and running to hug their dad.
Years of simply knowing Dad was home.
.
And every one of my children was robbed of those years.
More conversations.
More guidance.
More Father’s Days.
.
I am 42 years old and I still have a dad.
My children deserved that chance too.
And no amount of acceptance, understanding, or healing will ever convince me otherwise.

We lost my husband of 22 years when he took his own life, then just 3 short months later we lost my oldest son as he followed his father by taking his own life. My family has been dismantled, if you think for a second that you are saving someone from PAIN by taking your own life we are here to tell you that you are WRONG. We now sit with our own personally originated PAIN as humans complied with the pain of a husband, father, son, and brother. Their leaving early did NOT make anything easier for any of us.

To know what it feels like after someone you love takes their own L*Fe, is a feeling I would never wish even upon my own enemy. Bright my boy I miss you more than I ever thought a human was capable of missing someone, it’s all I can do to stay here myself without YOU. I choose to stay and try my best to BRIGHTN THE WORLD, even without you. Me, your sister and 6 brothers will try our best to pay if forward and spread awareness of the pain s*i*i*e leaves behind. It does not END the pain it just passes it on.

@paige.reesor.art you are an earth angel that has done such a service to our family all while living in your own real life tragedy and heartbreak. I thank God that our paths were placed in the most perfect way to know each other in this real time journey of navigating loss together.

This is what I woke up to this morning. 😭💔🙏🏼🤍
To lose my husband at his own hand and then my son the same way just 3 months later is a kind of pain I can’t even describe. Immense PAIN. And to look my children in the eye everyday and feel the questions and sorrow from their souls is excruciating. We are left to feel satisfied by rainbows. Sometimes if works and sometimes we double bird the sky. Today we will take the hello from our guys and hope they give us a nod again soon.
To my one daughter and SIX sons beside me here physically you are so freaking amazing and bad ass I am such a lucky mom to call you all my children I love you all so so so so much thank you for being such inspiration to all.🙏🏼🤍
