Resistance starts in our bodies. With Trans Day of Visibility coming on Monday, here's a message from this local trans person.

Every week when I do my hormone injection, I know it's an act of persistent resistance, a constant choice to utilize life-saving healthcare so I can live a healthy, engaged life in my body and my community. I do it despite the red tape, despite the weekly needle poke, despite the vitriol online.

I am more than my trans identity, but it's a part of me that intersects or impacts every other part of me and my life. Being nonbinary, I will keep choosing to embrace and embody the masculine and the feminine. I will keep receiving hormone replacement therapy. I will petition for a name change. And I will choose to speak loud about the beautiful parts and the dangerous realities of being trans.

First two days! 🚙☀️
Total miles: ~405

Rocking the two glasses look 😎, I’ve been enjoying the clouds on the highway ☁️. Arrived in Grand Rapids and did the Van Gogh interactive experience with @lily_salgat_ 🎨 and got to receive cool wisdom and kick some (virtual) sunflowers 🌻. Chilled for the rest of the day and slept on a pretty great couch (9/10). 🛋

Saw the sunrise 🌇, said bye to Lily. Had a great time visiting and catching up with friends around the Detroit area! Laughed and reminisced with @scdobreff over boba 🧋, got my first stick and poke done by the wonderful @ryebread_toast 🍄, then hung out and did a fun meandering hike with my friend Zach 🌳. Saw a huge buck 🦌! Pretty sunset today as well 🌅. Currently on my second couch (9/10). 🛋

Two beautiful days with such fun, memorable experiences - an amazing way to start off the trip! Off to Kalamazoo tomorrow! 😁

This week we’re getting to know the folks who make up the Outdoor Programs office:
.
Riley is a junior, returning to K for Spring term after spending a fall semester at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. They have worked with us since the start of their sophomore year and enjoyed two winter break trips to Joshua Tree National Park. Riley loves climbing, hiking, yoga, and laser games with their cat, Eddie. Riley takes a selfie on a hillside overlooking a small town

Life's been so busy I didn't even realize it's been a whole year since I started my first full-time job at K College! Not going to lie, this year has been challenging, probably the hardest year yet. Living where you work is no joke, friends! But this year has also been filled with immense growth, and I cannot be more grateful to my incredible co-workers and students for their guidance, dedication and friendship. Here are some photos from the past year that I was too busy to previously post 😂 #sapro #reslife #kalamazoo #grateful #biggirljob
