And just like that, she’s suddenly FIVE. 🥹💕

My first baby. The one who made me a mommy.

My sensitive, silly, smart girl with the biggest heart. I don’t know how five years have gone by so quickly, but watching you grow into the little person you are has been the greatest gift of my life.

We love you more than words could ever say, Mackinley Jaymes. To the moon, to the stars, and all the way across the universe. ✨💗

Happy 5th birthday, my sweet girl! 💕

Surprise! We decided to run away to Vegas (in Pittsburgh) to finally make this thing official. 💍

We vowed til death on Wednesday in front of our witnesses and the yinzer king himself. It was truly a magical day filled with so much love and good vibes.♥️

I want to extend another huge thank you to everyone who helped us get hitched and pull this thing off!

A love story set against the Pittsburgh skyline! 🖤🤍✨

Kayla & Ben’s cookie table at the PPG Wintergarden was a striking celebration of black-and-white sophistication with a little Pittsburgh personality!

Sleek black architectural displays, crisp white serving pieces, glowing candlelight, and a dramatic Pittsburgh skyline backdrop created layers of beauty for an incredible assortment of cookies. Every detail brought a modern, romantic twist to a beloved Pittsburgh wedding tradition.

Bold. Beautiful. Unmistakably Pittsburgh. 🖤

Congratulations, Kayla & Ben! Thank you for letting Here for the Cookie Table be part of your special day!

We had a great time at Living Dead Weekend, held most likely for the last time at the Monroeville Mall. Aside from seeing friends, some I haven’t seen in years, the panels were my most enjoyable part of the show. We got there just in time to catch the second half of the panel w/ Tom Atkins & Rick Catizone. On Sunday I got to catch up w/Atkins and he was very sweet, congratulating us. There was a Re-Animator panel, and aside from principal cast, Richard Band was there. I really loved hearing about his creative process in composing. I caught a bit of Claudio’s panel, but actually loved what he said at the screening of Dawn later that night more. Last panel we caught before heading home was John Amplas, Randy Kovitz & Tony Buba talking about the films of Romero. It’s wild that they all went on to be educators. That may have been my favorite of the weekend.

I took a lot of random pics around the Mall, realizing there’s a possibility it may be the last time we see it. I even took a pic of where Jay proposed to me (see the Macy’s sign).

The tickets to the Dawn screening were bought before we even had our weekend passes. I didn’t want to miss what at that time was the last screening of Dawn at the Monroeville Mall (a Midnight showing was added later). I loved hearing from a diverse group of cast and Claudio. Laughed hearing Claudio say the first time he saw the U.S. but of Dawn, he saw Goblin was listed as “The Goblins,” and wondered, “What band is this?” I’d never seen Dawn in a theater and man, the beginning especially was so visceral. It affected me in a way it hadn’t before. It highlighted the relationships between the characters even more.

Finally grabbed a pic w /Calista & Jenifer. They have the closest Mother-Daughter relationship and I really envy it. Such sweet women I’m glad to have met at the BHGS all because I was sitting w/Jill.

Last, only 2 purchases but both from my favorite Romero zombie film, Day. Bub was the first zombie who made me see that zombies were us and made me feel for them and that has resonated with me since I was a kid.

And yes, getting engaged there was the most memorable part of the weekend! Really grateful for this weekend.

The @oakmontbakery is officially stalking me. First at work this week - & again later. But I digress- it started out a perfect Pittsburgh day - we went to the meeting, the trees were poppin' & I went to get my hair done.
Afterwards I had to hit up @kohls for an @amazon return (& I hate Kohl's with the heat of a thousand suns) but I left with some @sephora (using my handy return coupons) that I wound up wearing out later in the evening.
After heading back home for a quick bite, & scandalous television @rhonybravo - exactly one of us (it wasn't me) got a nap. Then it was a quick wardrobe change into jeans, a beater, a long sleeve white luxe @gap shirt, my favorite flannel, a vegan leather moto jacket, & some vintage Airwalks from @payless that I've had since the 90s.
We were ready.
It was a nice scenic drive, despite passing 2 accidents - we still made it with time to kill (to get drinks & find our seats). Initially the vibe was very @mtv unplugged - their Grohl was appropriately long haired, their Novoselic was barefoot in a Sonic Youth T-shirt, & their Cobain was even wearing a cardigan. But as they kicked the energy into gear people got up out of their seats (kudos to the petite beige lady in green who pioneered rushing the stage).
I tip my hat to you, madam!
From there it was a real life @davechappelle skit featuring @johnmayer & @questlove in action & people were Officially Feeling It. I got up to used the facilities (excellent lighting btw @theoakstheater) & refuel (pick up more drinks & treats). While I waited for my pepperoni roll & cinnamon roll (which if you know me is HUGE because I don't do carbs) I chatted with a very nice film major that worked there. Turns out the c-buns were from the Oakmont Bakery! Also she somehow remembered me from the previous weekend (hello there ;) made everything perfectly, & even offered to help me carry it.
Back at the seats Ambrose's hoodie was up (and apparently a gun show was going on underneath) so I could tell it was almost time to hit the floor.
I wasn't wrong.
Before long we were out in front of the stage pogoing w/the best of them. It was a fantastic energetic finish to an incredible night!

Your reason to move east of the city

Start the day at Oakmont Bakery 🥯☕
Fresh coffee, a breakfast bagel sandwich that lives up to the hype, and a case full of pastries worth the drive. I even grabbed a box for the office, because I’m not a monster.
Spots like this are what make the east side of Pittsburgh feel like a small town with big city access. You get the walkable main street, the local favorites, and the kind of neighborhood where the bakery knows your order.
