Debating excellence is never built by individuals alone. Behind every strong debater and every great adjudicator is a community that trains, supports, and sustains them. For consistent competitive success, institutional growth, internal development, and meaningful contribution to the debating ecosystem, the Nigerian Débatteur d’Or award recognizes the debate unions that set the standard in 2025. Through tournaments they participated in, new debaters developed, and excellence maintained across the circuit; these debate unions defined what it meant to lead from the front. Based on their performance and impact in 2025, behold your nominees for the 2025 Debate Union of the Year award!

Which debate union wins this award? Be there at ANYDC 2026 to find out! 🤩

*CELEBRATING OAULDS’ HISTORIC VICTORY AT THE ALL-NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP*

Great Ife!

The Students’ Union proudly celebrates yet another giant stride by the Obafemi Awolowo University Literary and Debating Society (OAULDS), who have brought home national glory at the just-concluded All-Nigeria Universities Debate Championship held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, between 24th- 30th August, 2025.

Among over 25 universities, 70+ teams, and 140+ participants across the country, Team OAU emerged as the Overall Champions officially clinching the prestigious title of the Best Debating Team in Nigeria! 🎉

Our university was ably represented by:

Team A: Israel Ajake and Grillo Adedolapo [Open Champions]

Team B: Wole Ogidan and Bethel Olaiya

Adjudicator: Anigilaje Kanyinsola

In addition to the overall victory, our representatives shone with several individual awards:

🏆 Best Novice Speaker: Grillo Adedolapo

🏆 Second Best Novice Adjudicator: Anigilaje Kanyinsola

🏆 Second Place, Public Speaking: Bethel Olaiya

This remarkable achievement is not just a win for OAULDS but a victory for the entire Great Ife community, reaffirming our legacy of excellence, brilliance, and distinction on the biggest national stages.

The Union is exceedingly proud of this feat and urges all Great Ife students to keep embodying the spirit of excellence, discipline, and innovation that defines us. Let us continue to raise the banner of OAU high, within and beyond our campus walls.
