Fam…can you believe it? New York has its first school for trans kids. In Brooklyn no doubt!
Opens fall 2027

@missmajormiddle is focused on, dedicated to, and centers students who are transgender. I swear it’s a dream come true for many of us.

When I went to Spelman College - an historically Black school- I was centered. My blackness was normal, standard, and not the least bit of a distraction. In fact being Black on Spelman’s campus felt like the prototype and that allowed me to study, socialize, rest and explore life without the weight of and the burden of racism.

I hope that this school, Miss Major Middle School, will be the Spelman College for our trans kids. A place where students can focus on their intellect, their creativity, developing social and emotional skills without the burden of being othered.

Last night my family both chosen and biological came out to support. My teen son skipped homework, my baby nephew traveled all the way from DC to play the piano at the event, and my friends and family witnessed what I hope will be history in the making.

Just want to take a moment to give a special thank you to the Amplify family for welcoming me in and giving me the opportunity to play alongside such an incredible group. Every rehearsal, performance, and moment shared was an experience I’ll truly appreciate. The love, support, and positive energy never went unnoticed, and I’m beyond grateful to have been a part of it all.
A huge thank you as well to Me’Kayla and the rest of the artists in the band for the encouragement, talent, and passion you all brought every single time. Being able to share the stage with such gifted and hardworking people pushed me to be even better, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The memories, laughs, and moments we created together will definitely stay with me.
I’m thankful for every opportunity, every connection, and everyone who showed love throughout this journey. Much love to all of you, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for everyone involved. This is only the beginning!”

Whats good y’all I’m Mekayla Chenai a singer, songwriter, and storyteller from Miami Florida! My music lives in that space where honesty meets melody, always rooted in something real. I pull from R&B, soul, and the little fragments of life that sit heavy on the heart, turning them into songs that feel like conversations.

For Amplify Live Fall 2025, I’m stepping into a version of myself I’ve been working toward for a long time, more intentional, more open, and more confident in what I have to say. this was truly a beautiful & unforgettable experience. i’ve performed many times but something about this night was so different that it moved me to tears which is a first. i can’t say how blessed i am enough for this God given gift, to have been part of this wonderful event, & to witness the magnitude of community and such moving energy.🫂🙏🏾
