Super happy for another Official Selection for ‘Montreal International Indie Short Film Awards’. My team and I are grateful that “Spirits We Dance” film is traveling places ✨🎥✨ From writing down ideas on a rainy dumsor (light off) evening in my bedroom and thinking how cool would it be to make a film, like a proper film and work with some of my favorite creatives. The story kept me awake for more than few days, it was meant to be told. We have to keep chasing our dreams no matter what and be fearless it the pursuit. Beautiful poster for my debut film “Spirits We Dance” artwork by @memoirsofblu and beautifully captured by @ofoeamegavie. This week I’ ll posting some visuals & the creative process. Stay tuned! Spirits We Dance is a poetic journey of two contemporary dancers as they show us what life is like being a disabled dancer in a harsh, urban landscape of Accra. In a tale of friendship between Afriyie and Alfred and a tale of love a mother and daughter, Spirits We Dance takes viewers into an imaginative and surreal mindscape. A world sublime and yet childlike in its beauty, it is created by the characters to escape the pain of reality. Connecting with their spiritual side when they dance, they are free from the restrictions their bodies and society impose. Challenging the idea that spirits are evil and menacing, two dancers find freedom when they leave reality behind and connect with the spirits of dance.
