Strawberry Daiquiri ✨🍓

@chelsealouisekyle has an image in her portfolio of strawberries on a pink surface. The light she used has always intrigued me. Defined edges shadows, yet very filled. I played around with those ideas in this shot.

Apart from being obsessed with pink, I’m so surprised at how much I’m enjoying playing with BOLD patterns.

A recent shoot where I shot the subject against multiple backdrops:

1️⃣ Patterned fabric
2️⃣ Faux pink leather
3️⃣ Solid @bessiebakesbackdrops pink

Do you have a favourite?

Are you surprised by which one you like the most?

@tiffanysfoodphotography and I teamed up at the end of last year to shoot a concept Tiff had on her mind for a while.

She brilliantly art directed this shoot, and I found this crazy beautiful paper to shoot on.

Lighting and editing a white subject on sparkly paper was challenging, but gosh it delivered in tying the whole concept together.

It felt like a new spin on something to share for Valentines Day. We hope these sparkles and warm colours bring some fun to you week ❤️🩷

One light can be perfect, it can be all you need ✨

Knowing placement, direction, modification and how you interrupt the light can bring something magical.

Photography surfaces and props are the backbone of strong food imagery.

They are not just there to look pretty. They play a critical role in how the food is perceived on camera, helping to enhance texture, support colour harmony, and frame ingredients in a way that feels intentional and elevated.

The right surface or prop should:
• Complement the food through thoughtful colour relationships
• Add depth and dimension without distraction
• Be proportioned to support the composition, not overpower it

I regularly run prop and surface tests to build a visual library I can draw from for client campaigns. Having that groundwork in place makes creative decisions on shoot day faster, more strategic, and more aligned with the final vision.

Also, if you know me, you know I will always reach for pink 💗

Props in this test came from @objektstabletop in Toronto.
