Similar to Soccer, Graphic Design and illustration at AFH is a team sport! Thank you to Synergy for passing the ball to AFH and trusting our team to bring your vision of celebration, unity, and love of soccer to life. “In those illustrations, you see the country’s background, their neighborhoods, you see their cities, you see their skylines. So when they come here, they feel like they have been noticed, and they feel like: Hey, there’s a little respect for our country in Boston.” —Mikey Guadarrama, AFH Graphic Design Director and Brand Manager In this video, you get a sneak peek into the process from start to finish—seeing the amount of care and detail that our team put into creating all nine windows. Each window represents a country participating in the World Cup, with players from Haiti, France, England, Scotland, Morocco, Norway, Iraq, and Ghana all kicking the ball towards the final soccer player and the window representing Boston. Shoutout to AFH teen designers Mai, Stephon, Te’Zohn, Ashley, Larel, Jaliegha, Yasmine, Hodan, Angelo, Kia, and Shamania as well as mentors Mikey Guadarrama, Jonathan Tejeda, Tamara Yampolsky, and Cierra Larkin for creating this awesome piece celebrating FIFA’s World Cup and thank you to @synergybos and @lifeatbgo for making this happen! #fifaworldcup #bostonart #cityplazaart

We asked our mentors what their favorite thing about being a mentor at AFH is! “Through this work I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a huge number of people on creative projects. Including the young artists we work with who are SO creative!” —Hannah Fallon, AFH NYC Director “Every so often I feel like my presence made a teen’s day a tiny bit better and that’s the reason I work at AFH.” — Ryo Matsuki, 3D Design Director “I love seeing teens experience that ‘aha’ moment!” —Tamara Yampolsky, Graphic Design Studio Assistant Mentor “I love seeing the teens feel proud of themselves and the sense of agency they gain after creating something that they never imagined possible.” — Mércia Guilherme, Graphic Design Mentor What is YOUR favorite thing about AFH? 1. “Stop worrying about the details. You’re painting the big picture now in your high school years.” —— Dominique Litif-Nelson, Foundation Studio Director 2. “Pursue the things that interest you and learn how they work.”—— Hannah Fallon, AFH NYC Director 3. “Just keep creating.” —— Tamara Yampolsky, Assistant Mentor in AFH’s Graphic Design Studio This is your sign to keep doing the things you’re passionate about! Artists For Humanity (AFH) harnesses the power of mentorship and paid professional experiences to inspire teens to build their future. These mentors thought about “What advice would you tell a teen artist?” We’re lucky to have Dominique Litif-Nelson (Foundation Studio Director), Hannah Fallon (AFH NYC Project Director), and Tamara Yaplonsky (Graphic Design Studio Assistant Mentor) as part of the AFH Team. Not only are the talented artists, but also fantastic mentors! Interested in learning more about Artists for Humanity?
