COSMOLOGY OF THE HEIRESSES, 2026.
A few installation views from my exhibition at @rencontresarles.

My deepest thanks to curator Nadine Hounkpatin @nadineh_jackiesp, @elinegrgs, Myrabelle Charlebois, Lili Michaud, @occurrence_ and the wonderful team of Les Rencontres d’Arles for making this exhibition possible.

Bringing photography, weaving, beading, archival fragments, and the body, the exhibition considers the image as a site where memory and identity are continuously constructed, transmitted, and transformed. The works move between intimate and collective histories, tracing the afterlives of migration, colonial rupture, and interrupted forms of transmission.

Grateful to everyone who visited, supported the project, and shared this moment with me during the opening week in July.❤️

Les Nuits au théâtre antique
Remise du Prix Découverte 2026 Fondation @louisroederer_

À l'occasion de la dernière soirée au Théâtre antique, le vendredi 10 juillet, un jury a décerné le Prix Découverte Fondation Louis Roederer à MAGALI PAULIN pour son exposition "Matières, fantômes" présentée par Doubledummy (Arles, France).

🏆 Magali Paulin photographie à Paris, dans un ancien jardin colonial, des architectures que le temps reprend. Ses images révèlent les traces persistantes de l’histoire et ce que ces lieux continuent de porter.

Lors de cette même soirée, le prix du public a été décerné à MALLORY LOWE MPOKA pour son exposition "Cosmologie des héritières", présenté par Occurence (Montréal, Canada).

🏆 Son projet mêle photographies, textiles et archives familiales. Une œuvre où broderies et perles altèrent les images pour faire surgir des fragments d’histoire camerounaise longtemps passés sous silence.

Nights at the Théâtre antique
2026 Discovery Award @louisroederer_ Foundation

On the occasion of the final evening at the Ancient Theater this Friday, July 10, a jury awarded the Louis Roederer Foundation Discovery Award to MAGALI PAULIN for her exhibition "Matter, phantoms" presented by Doubledummy (Arles, France).

🏆 Magali Paulin photographs architecture in Paris—in a former colonial garden—that time is reclaiming. Her images reveal the lingering traces of history and what these places continue to carry.

During the same evening, the Audience Choice Award was presented to MALLORY LOWE MPOKA for her exhibition "Cosmologies of the heiresses" presented by Occurence (Montreal, Canada).

🏆 Her project blends photography, textiles, and family archives. It is a body of work in which embroidery and beads alter the images to bring to light fragments of Cameroonian history that have long been silenced.

Courez voir l’expo de l’artiste mexicaine-québécoise @renatamorales ! Elle a créé les plus belles robes du monde pour @arcadefire (et moi!), mais elle est d’abord artiste visuelle. La galerie @occurrence_ lui a donné carte blanche, elle a créé son expo in situ, et c’est sublime, rock et fantomatique.

Quelques images de ma première tournée des expositions du printemps à Montréal 🌱

A year ago today my exhibition, Réalités réfléchies, opened at @occurrence_ It was such an honour to have my project chosen and the entire process was so lovely. I am endlessly grateful to the whole team over at Occurence and to my community for the unwavering support.

I wanted to share a bit more of the process on this anniversary:

This project, a meditation on bizarre reflections and the conceptual possibilities within, began for me in high school and I have spend the last 13 years evolving and adding to it. In the two years I knew about this exhibition I prepared over 100 works as part of the series. However, a few months before the show was slated to open I realized that all of the proposed pieces did not fully reflect where I was in my artistic practice. They represented an evolution of the series rather than a clear and concise representation and the works were spread over many formats and mediums. So I endeavoured to create a new series of 7 larger scale paintings specifically designed to both fit the space and more clearly convey the conceptual framework of the project.

From January to March of last year I spent over 100 hours in the studio creating this series. Each was done in oil on a 36in x 48in wood panel using my standard five colour palette. Painting in this large size was a big shift for me, as my scale of preference is 5in x 7in but was a very fun, albeit physical, challenge. Each of the reference photos was part of a collection I have been amassing since the projects conception in 2013. I kept the pieces private until the vernissage, in a desire for them to be seen first as a cohesive whole.

This process was chaotic and beautiful and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to create like this. Although the timeline was a bit wild I think that the experience of creating so much in such a short period imbued the exhibition with the intention and intensity of the process.
