#moviemonday is here, and I’m reach into my bag a little to talk about a movie I feel gets forgotten. 2003’s Tears Of The Sun.

The movie follows Bruce Willis as LT. Waters, a SEAL team commander tasked with recovering American citizens from Nigeria after the county’s government collapses. After finding their objective, Dr. Lena Kendricks (played by Monica Bellucci), she refuses to leave the locals she’s been working with. The SEALS reluctantly agree and decide to take the whole group north to the Cameroon border, but it isn’t long before Nigerian forces end up on their tail.

Black Hawk Down is the movie that usually gets thrown around as one of the best military movies of the 2000’s, and I don’t disagree, but Tears of the Sun absolutely belongs in that conversation. The acting by the SEAL team is fantastic. Bruce Willis is always great, but people like Cole Hauser, Johnny Messner, Nick Chinlund and Eamon Walker provide great supporting characters, some with opposing opinions that feel real.

And the guns are great. The big issue is sometimes, the aimpoints on the M4’s are mounted backwards (idk how that managed to happen) but everything else is very squared away. There’s a scene where the teams discovered a village being raided, and going around just isn’t an option, so they bust out their Heckler & Koch MK23s with Knights cans. That moment was my introduction to the MK23, and I thought it was cool as hell ever since.

This movie is currently on netflix, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a killer movie and a really fun time. 🍻

Getting extra German on this #45friday

It might be a controversial opinion, but I think @hecklerandkoch peaked with the USP line. I’m sure I’ll hear about it in the comments 🍻

A good main character needs two things. A cool jacket and a cool gun.

My buddy @celluloid_arsenal made a post a few days ago about how Hollywood has forgotten the way of the “main character gun” and I couldn’t agree more. Most action heroes have guns from the same manufacturers (or three gun company) that are boring as hell and have no personality.

So it’s our job to do what Hollywood won’t. Carry the main character gun 🍻

What better to carry during a nor’easter than a boat anchor?

The Smith & Wesson 4566 kept me from floating away last night. Thankfully I missed most of the really bad weather. Here’s hoping you all did too 🍻

The weather is finally cooling down and we’re entering the best part of the year, Fall.

That means it’s time to start carrying like a cop in a small town where things just don’t seem right.

Carry accordingly 🍻

The nicer weather is right around the corner, and I’ll soon be able to get away with carrying this bad boy. Can’t wait 🍻

I tried to be storebrand @sagedynamics and @108performance for my first range trip with the Tisas MCR. I ran just over 200 rounds in about 3ish minutes. I wanted to have more rounds for the first go around, but this was all I could spare.

I ran every kind of mag I own. Wilson’s. Chip McCormicks, Ed Brown, mecgar (they come with the Tisas) and colt mags. The big takeaway for me was the gun really didn’t like the chip 10 rounders. But it ran perfectly with the 7 and 8 round mags from everything else.

This may be unpopular but I do generally give new 1911s a 500 round break in period before I start seeing issues as something I need to address, unless it’s a seriously glaring issue. I am but a big dumb idiot, but I don’t see anything in the wear that makes me put up a red flag.

I’ll be ordering some more .45 here soon, and I hope to do a higher round count range trip soon. 🍻

Had a fun little range day over the weekend, knocked the dust off some old Milsurps (and totally forgot today was #milsurpmonday)

Get hits on steel with these was fun as all hell, seeing those big .303 Brit or .30-06 rounds swing the plates was so satisfying. And yes, my shoulder is still feeling it. But that’s half the fun 🍻
