All our labels are hand-applied and I never resent time spent labeling, because I love the design.

We have had the particular pleasure of working on our labels with @vtedie since we started in 2010, and for the last 5+ years also with @the_willa. Together they are @oddcrocodile, and they are expert in wine label design, re-branding, labeling compliance requirements, web design, backstage DTC support….more than I can remember right now. They are also the best neighbors.

So, feast your eyes. These are just a few.

Often people ask, “Who designs your labels?!” They are so beautiful, they say. It’s easy to agree. @oddcrocodile, that design duo we love and admire so much facilitates this dream work.

Typically, Friday nights are sometimes marked by stopping for a glass of wine on the way home. Sometimes cooking something celebratory or getting take-out marks the end of the week. There’s usually some kind of cinematic entertainment, unless we’ve gathered with friends around the table. Don’t worry I’m going somewhere with this connection between @oddcrocodile and Fridays.

More often than not on Friday, there’s still work to do, and we forget that it’s Friday and by 8 pm we realize it’s “Fri-yay!” and we should mark the evening in some way. Mark the end of the week, even though on Saturday and Sunday there is often work to do as well, pruning, some cellar work, or a pop-up.

This Friday I worked later. But with great anticipation. I was working with @oddcrocodile on the next phase of the redesign of our homefarm labels. This has been a year long process, trying to find the right way into the story. It’s felt very important to me to not only help drive the art direction, but to flex long-atrophied artistic muscles, that of painting and drawing. To craft with my own hand the narrative of our homefarm vineyards which we are so intimately entwined. I feel strongly about all our vineyards, the connections are powerful, but we planted these vineyards at home, raising them from the moment they married the ground, extensions of flower and vegetable gardens, weaving past the little orchard we planted, extending out to the edge of the forest. They are a map of our lives in this place.

It’s taken awhile to figure out this story graphically. But finally, I think we’ve gotten there, and together with @oddcrocodile, who has taken the original artwork to the next stage and begun to sketch their layering magic. We’re not quite ready to reveal. There’s more refining, more artwork to complete. But here’s a sliver of the visual story we are telling, a look through the keyhole.

As the golden tones bathe Vermont’s hills in a soft amber glow, there’s a quiet magic unfolding—a dance of tradition, ritual, and the unwavering passion of women who cultivate the earth.

We’re honoring three exceptional women and their organic vineyards that are shaping Vermont’s wine story: Deirdre Heekin of La Garagista (Barnard), Kendra Knapik of Ellison Estate Vineyard (Grand Isle and Stowe), and Camila Carrillo of La Montañuela (New Haven and Barnard).

These extraordinary women pour their hearts into every vine, weaving together the rhythms of the land, the whispers of the seasons, and the legacy of their craft. Each bottle they create is more than wine—it’s a love letter to Vermont’s native fruit, sealed with a kiss.

We raise our glass to the October hunter’s moon—the huntress, her resilience, and instinctual connection to the world around her.

Our spellbinding new Fall/Holiday issue celebrates the remarkable women leading Vermont’s food and beverage industry—whether they’re working in the vineyards, orchards, behind the bar, from their home kitchen, or in the heart of the restaurant. For this special cover, we drew inspiration from the magic of the hunter’s moon, the ethereal beauty of fall, and Vermont’s spirit of abundance as we approach holiday gatherings and the new year.

We collaborated with the visionary team at Odd Crocodile Design—the creative minds behind many of the beverage label designs featured in this issue—to bring this mystical cover to life. Their design captures the strength, grace, grit, beauty, and resilience of the women shaping Vermont’s food and beverage landscape.
