Trick or treat? 🎃🐾

The costumes might be temporary, but the cuteness is very much permanent. 🥹

Spent some time with some of my fave adoptable dogs at @niagara_spca to find out their best tricks (and their very best treats). 🍬

Turns out, what they’d really like this Halloween is a family of their own. 🧡

See someone who stole your heart? Head over to @niagara_spca to learn more about the dogs currently waiting for their forever homes.

And tell us below… who wins the costume contest? 👇🎃🐶
.
Featured pups: Jewels 💎, Zeus 💛 , Pineapple 🍍, and a couple pups not quite available yet (but keep an eye because they will be soon!)

Can't believe we're down to our final day in Iceland! Third and final installment of It's the Little Things: people and pets here are so friendly; we got to enjoy a final dinner in Reykjavik at an outstanding steakhouse; yes, we went to some silly tourist attractions just for fun; loving the public art (often thoughtful) everywhere; the coffee is great, though my preferred decaf can be hard to find; and when in Iceland, there's nothing better than a visit to a hot spring!!!

Unfortunately we haven't run into fellow Canadian @elizajeanreid , though we did prepare for this visit by reading her books 😁.

Iceland 2026: it's the little things, part 2! Chasing waterfalls and getting soaking wet (on purpose); discovering caves and Hobbit houses (aka turf houses); warming up with Icelandic fish soup; standing on the beach and feeling small; sisters searching for (and finding) puffins; fresh crepes; amazing hikes with views for days; cooking our own eggs for lunch by a geysir; learning that Icelandic butter really is THE BEST; straddling a continental divide while shopping; and lots and lotsa family love 💕.

Yes Iceland is spectacular, and I've got photos of the jaw-dropping views too, but really it's the little things. Stay tuned!

First day-and-a-half in Iceland! I'm so lucky to be traveling with our four daughters (well, technically three daughters and a soon-to-be daughter-in-law, same/same). Of COURSE first stop was the @bluelagoonis . We're staying at a lovely mid-century family style rental walking distance to downtown Reykjavik, so we've definitely been getting our steps in seeing the sights. Home base neighbourhood has a café, bakery, swimming pool, and we're two blocks from the ocean. Artistic inspiration abounds! Stay tuned...

Help me wish Kayleigh Happy Birthday today! This beautiful person (inside and out) is our soon-to-be daughter-in-law, and we couldn't be happier. Kayleigh, we wish you only the best on this special day and over the coming year. We trust that Verena will be making sure that you celebrate in style. All our love from N+L ❤️ 🎂 🎈 🥂 🎉

Before spending thousands and contributing to the overpopulation problem we have right now, please consider adopting.

Yes , you can find a puppy, a hypoallergenic dog and everything in between. These dogs aren’t broken, they just need a chance !
.
All available at the @niagara_spca (except JJ, she’s gone home!)

Have you heard of Black Dog Syndrome?
It’s a real thing, and a bunch of our pups are experiencing it right now.

Did you know - Black dogs take up to 4x longer to be noticed and adopted? They are overlooked day after day. They have just a much love to give as their counterparts of other colours.

Share this reel to bring awareness to black dog syndrome, but also, to help our friends Aries, Bane, Pluto, Pineapple and Georgie find their happliy ever after

Bane is still waiting and he’s so confused as to why. So are we!
.
His foster mom has the following things to say:
🐾 he is a big boy with puppy energy
🐾 he’s working hard on his excitement and greetings making great progress
🐾 his leash manners have come such a long way - he’s a great walker especially if he knows you have treats
🐾 he’s a gentle giant and expert cuddler, never far away
🐾 he’s good with dogs and kids (just might not be best with really little ones due to his size!)
.
Please share Banes story. His people are out there !

Katniss has been at the shelter since 2023. Almost exactly 2.5 years. She isn’t thriving in the shelter environment (though not surprising after 2.5 years) and would LOVE a home to call her own
.
She’s good with cats, loves toys and treats, and enjoys being brushed. She’s got medium playful energy meaning she can play hard and nap harder
.
She would require some patience and understanding wherever she goes. She needs some time to warm up , and once she does she’ll enjoy some love and attention (likely still on her own terms). She’s not a needy cat, nor is she a super cuddle bug. She’d love a soft place to land and a human or two that get her
.
She would do best in a home with no young children
.
For Katniss, a foster home, foster to adopt , or straight up adoption would be 👌🏻
.
She is located at the port Colborne location of @niagara_spca 🐱
.
Please share her sweet sassy face with your kitty lovin peeps

Gary is the definition of gentle resilience. This sweet boy has the softest eyes and a calm, loving spirit that shines even brighter than the challenges he’s facing ✨
.
Gary has heartworm disease and is currently on a “slow kill” treatment plan to help slowly kill off the heartworm over the course of the year. He also has a mass tumor on his face that sits very close to his muzzle, which means surgery isn’t an option. 🥹
.
Because of this, Gary is looking for a special palliative foster home where he can spend the rest of his days surrounded by comfort, kindness, and love 💕
.
Despite everything, Gary is still Gary - a tender-hearted soul who enjoys quiet companionship, cozy beds, and gentle affection. He’s the kind of dog who will sit beside you and simply be grateful to share your space. He doesn’t ask for much - just a soft place to rest and someone who cares
.
Gary’s ideal foster home would be calm and understanding, with someone who is committed to keeping him comfortable and continuing his heartworm management as directed by the shelter’s veterinary team. The shelter will provide guidance and support every step of the way
.
What Gary needs most isn’t a miracle - it’s love. He deserves to know what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and home.
If you have room in your heart for a truly special boy, Gary is waiting
.
PLEASE share his story !! Social media can be such a powerful, beautiful tool in the world of rescue 🙏 🐾 💛
