Funeral March for Orion Pax, played by Megatron / Funeral March for Megatronus, played by Optimus Prime

It was my honour to draw this as a 4x6 postcard as a prize for the Transformers stamp rally that I’m participating in this year at Anirevo! The theme this time was a big concert, and I wanted to create something more classical! I took huge inspiration from my TF art idols @jebjebby_art and @oddlybuddy_tf , who are masters of colour blocking! It was my pleasure to work with them on this project! Thank you for being amazing teammates, alongside the incomparable @lm_molamola and @choiiscorner ! I always learn so much working with these artists.

I always saw the star-crossed dynamic between Optimus and Megatron as rife with tension to explore, and as shown in shows like Prime and One, they often see each other as the embodiment of what they themselves have lost. There’s a latent undercurrent of Greek tragedy to the whole affair. It was important for me to center Megatron, but to also include Optimus in the piece, for they complete one another. In truth, maybe this is all happening in Megatron’s head… surely in his own imagination, Optimus is constantly yearning and pining for him the way Megatron pines and yearns for Optimus! The reality, of course, is a little different…
Intertextually, @jebjebby_art subverts Megatron’s mentality awesomely with her piece for this project, which is of Optimus grinning and going ham on what I think is a banjo. We didn’t even plan that…!

If you’re curious about reviving this not only as a postcard but as printed on a premium ticket, please consider participating in our stamp rally at @anirevovancouver !!

for those who aren’t aware, the US gov recently removed the tariff exemption for low value foreign goods, so it’s just not feasible anymore to send parcels to the states with the risk of additional or surprise fees. sending virtual hugs to all the small business owners affected by this bs 🫂
