“Over the years, the Black Family Archive has grown and become a quarterly event the Black Image Center hosts…its goal was to provide a safe space for Black individuals to explore their familial history through photos. They bring together archivists and conservators to scan and preserve people's images.” - KCAL News

Join us on Sunday, February 23rd from 1 PM - 4 PM for Black Family Archive: For the Love of LA! 💛

For those impacted by the Los Angeles fires, the loss or damage of family photographs can feel like losing a piece of your history. The Black Family Archive invites you to reconnect with your visual legacy by exploring the stories and experiences captured in your family images.

We’ll be offering:

1. Archiving sessions aimed to provide support and resources to help salvage, preserve, and protect these irreplaceable memories, ensuring that they are not lost to time or disaster.

2. Conservation sessions for smoke-damaged or dirty photographs and materials to learn how to properly salvage, clean, and preserve your important keepsakes.

Please note: These sessions are specifically for individuals whose homes have been affected by the Los Angeles fires. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize those in need of archiving support.

You can sign up for both archiving and conservation sessions using the links in our bio! 🔗
