Well done everyone on the Farmer combo with partner work. One of the hardest steps to learn in House vocab and even harder when moving in different directions.

Keep levelling up 🏠

April 2026 recap of absolute beginners House. We covered loose legs & heel toe, cross step with turns and salsa step/salsa hop.

The format of drilling the same step for 2 weeks (turns in week 2) is really helping the muscle memory. Always great to see new faces joining class and the regulars levelling up each week.

Keep it up everyone. I am a proud mama hen.

Last night was the opening night of the 'Rest in Power' exhibition.

The exhibition reflects on a protest movement initiated by Elli Sheeran during the RMIT 2024 art grad show in response to the murder of Isla Bell.

Often, an exhibition catalogue stands as a small accompaniment, the gallery equivalent of skimming the wikipedia page of a movie you’ve just watched. Then, they’re folded away in art student journals or scrapbooks as mementos.

This exhibition was a little different. In the lead-up to Rest in Power, several 2024 graduates provided written pieces reflecting on the protest movement. As the opening night began, myself and other graduates (many friends reuniting) sat down with our catalogues to read what each other had written. It honestly blew me away. The enduring passion, rage, and empathy in every sentence was incredible. This from many who believe writing isn’t their strength.

I wanted to share my passage and some others from fellow-graduates that particularly struck me. I also wanted to share the passage written by Zahra O’Dea, a 2025 graduate student who has worked tirelessly towards this exhibition all whilst contending with her own grad show.

Lastly, I wanted to share the passage written by Justine Spokes, Isla Bell’s mother. Justine spoke last night, with a power I will never forget. I cannot express the rage at a mother shackled by a judiciary system that forces her to use the word ‘allegedly’ when publicly speaking about her own daughter’s murder.

Thank you to Jess Hutchison, for organising this exhibition and providing us a space to speak further. Thank you to Sherele Moody, the founder of Australian Femicide watch, whose morning routine consists of checking police press releases for reports of women murdered. Your endurance is incredible.

So whilst I urge you to visit Rest in Power, I especially urge you to pick up and read through this catalogue. This one is special.
