Odejuma is back and I got a chance to have an amazing conversation with @thegaydatingcoach!

We talked about it all from the dynamics of dating as Black gay folks to how he has consistently helped Black gay men find love for over a decade. We get real about intentionality in dating, the fear of rejection, situationships with Lamont also sharing a little bit about his love story.

I am so excited about this episode of Odejuma because I got to talk with the amazing @kitchenbutterfly about the way she digs into the history and stories behind Nigerian food, and about her James Beard winning cookbook, Chop Chop.

I could not let her go without asking about the growing online thread of folks trying to “elevate Nigerian food.” It is something I have my own feelings about, and it turns out she and I land in a similar place. There is a difference between exploring Nigerian food and assuming it needs lifting up to begin with. I will let her make the case in the episode.

Closing out Pride Month with @ashtonsdreams talking about the importance of telling our open stories. Like he said, the stories we choose to tell right now set the terms for the next hundred. What gets made. What gets seen. What the next generation gets to point to and say, I want one like that. So document your life. Tell the story. Especially now.

If you are in the Twin Cities this week, @brittany.m.lewis and her team at @researchinaction are hosting the Community Research for Liberation National Convening on Thursday and Friday, June 11 and 12, in Minneapolis. The theme is Building a New Table with Black Women, Girls and Femmes, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Two days of healing, research, workshops, and community.

I had the honor of sitting down with Brittany this week on Odejuma, and she is one of the most grounded, intentional people I have spoken with. His work across theater and television is so expansive but he talks about how working on ‘A Strange Loop’ for a decade shaped the trajectory of his career.
