9 galleries this weekend, 7 last month, and a whole camera roll I haven’t posted yet. The highlight was catching @melissajoseph_art right after her talk on Casserole Culture.

Seeing an artist’s work online then going to see it IRL is such a surreal moment…but you let me know! The gallery bag stays packed. What should be on my list next for next month?

The best part about this book? It was Toni’s favorite one to write🖊️

I finished 🎷Jazz by Toni Morrison🎷 today, and it feels fitting to close out September with a book that left me carrying so much melancholy.

A little literary history that made the novel even more fascinating to me: Jazz was inspired by James VanDerZee’s - The Harlem Book of the Dead⚰️, specifically the story of a young woman who was killed by her lover. Morrison took that story and transformed it into something much larger… a lesson on love, desire, violence, memory, jealousy, and the complicated ways we carry one another.

I understand why and this was not an easy read for me. It was emotionally triggering, beautiful, sensual, and at times deeply unsettling. But now that I’ve finished it, I already know I want to return to it. The first read felt like a study. The second might feel like surrender.

If you’ve read Jazz, I’d love to know what you found in it. And if I’m staying in Toni’s world, what should I read next? Sula is calling my name.

It goes back to middle school, sneaking Zane books into our backpacks, swapping them between classes like secrets. Reading too fast. Returning them quietly. Love stories felt forbidden then, which somehow made them sacred.

It goes back to my parents’ house, when they were still together. My dad disappearing into the bathroom for an hour, his stack of books and magazines waiting for him. That was my first lesson in intimacy as ritual. Desire as something personal. Intentional. Private.

Now at 33, my dad knows I’m writing a romance novel and knows he’s part of the reason why.

So when I see conversations about romance writing becoming “trendy,” I understand the tension. What feels different now isn’t love…it’s speed. Stories built for virality instead of depth. Craft confused for vibes. Grammar treated like an aesthetic choice instead of respect for the reader.

Romance was never meant to be rushed.
Love stories were never meant to be disposable.

There’s a difference between writing to be seen and writing because the story has lived in you for years, waiting for language. Between recycling plots and honoring archetypes. Between feeding attention spans and trusting readers to stay…Romance didn’t come back. It never left, and some of us aren’t chasing a moment. We’re answering to memories that remain.

Winter Harvest: An Ikebana Experience🥀

As we prepare for the Winter Solstice, we’ll explore what it means to slow down, create with intention, and gather once more.

@odetoyoustudio’s second Ikebana workshop Winter Harvest honors the turning of the season through mindful creation using nature’s bounty.

Think squash, corn, pomegranates, and other symbols of nourishment and renewal. — where autumn’s warmth fades into winter’s quiet glow.

Through connection, food, and reflection, Winter Harvest will explore what it means to slow down, create, and reconnect as we prepare for the season ahead.

🕯️An ode to the Winter Solstice. Coming this December.
