What a dreamy evening at Castle Valley Mill with a group of lovely bakers, all coming together for the big Bakers’ Hang 6. Nothing beats talking to other bakers on the grounds of an 18th century mill, with local milling family the Fischers. Flour rocks and bakers rock and millers rock. Thanks again @cvmllc for hosting us. Go buy their flour. 🥖

My baby (quietly) turned two on Valentine’s Day. I gifted myself my first true day off in two years to honor it, which feels like something I need more practice in.

More than anything, what I learned in year two is that creativity is energetic. Unlike my roles in past lives, you can’t kid creativity, or pretend you have more in you to offer than you actually do. Creating asks patience, inspiration, sleep — all things that year two of building a business doesn’t volunteer a lot of. I clocked so many hours in the last 365 days that I prefer to round up the sunsets I watched in our space than peek at how many hours our tracking spreadsheet would confirm I spent in there. It’s…a lot.

Happy two, @dearest.media — we started off this year thinking we had one specialty, and accidentally became a full-scale agency. We thought it would be exciting to sign a contract with someone on our bookshelf, and we did it three times — and it was a pinch-me moment every single time we did it.

When I think back on this year, I’ll remember (intensely) what relentless commitment feels like. Writing this, I’m laughing to myself about how everyone I admire who has done this and checked on how it’s going says “oh yeah, year two will feel like that”.

I’ll remember how that comraderie, and an incredible amount of mentorship filled my gas tank when it had been running empty for miles (@gvecchio, @baileyannking, @liz.einhorn, @lifewithlmk, @alexandra.wakim, @shelly.horst, @beezymcphee, @clickclackchloe, @noelle_blizzard, @ladyinrednj — my goodness, thank you).

I’ll remember how this tiny team grew from three to seven, how they constantly asked to take on more and be taught new things, and finished my sentences and made sense of the creative chaos in my brain without me having to say much of anything. They care harder than any group of people I have ever met, and they’re limitless for it.

I truly cannot wait to see what we build with that this year. Lucky, lucky, LUCKY. 💘
