🦋 LABALABA DANCE STEPZ — THE STORY BEHIND THE MOVEMENT

The Labalaba Dance Stepz was created in 2019, inspired by a simple but unforgettable encounter.

On my way to rehearsal one day, I came across some kids playing with a butterfly. I became fascinated by the way the butterfly moved and flapped its wings. That moment sparked an idea, and I began translating the butterfly’s movement into dance.

From that inspiration, I created four different variations of the Labalaba Stepz. Over time, one variation travelled further than the others and became the version that went viral.

Today, I am reintroducing the Labalaba Dance Stepz—bringing the movement, its story, and its cultural identity back into the conversation.

In Yoruba, “Labalaba” means butterfly, and the movement carries that inspiration at its core: freedom, transformation, lightness, and movement.

I am also proud that the Labalaba Dance Stepz has been officially registered with the @nigerian_copyright Commission, marking an important step in documenting and protecting this creative work.

To everyone who has danced the stepz, shared it, taught it, supported it, and helped keep the movement alive—thank you. Your energy has carried Labalaba further than I could have imagined.

A special shout-out to the former Lagos Gond Chairman, Barrister Dorothy Ugonwa Obiayo, for helping make this possible.

The hashtag is now #LabalabaDanceStepz & #LabalabaDancetotheworld

#God is moving in #Krump, but many are still skeptical. 👀🔥

A recent episode from @offbalancepod_ sparked conversation after discussing a powerful moment that happened during @thebucksummit in Medellín, Colombia.

The podcast mentioned #Tighteyex video of a krumper named Deiby being healed after being on crutches from a gunshot wound. After Tighteyex prayed for him, Tighteyex took the crutches — and Deiby began getting off in the session without them.

The podcast called the topic “sensitive,” discussing the idea of God in Krump and asking the question: Is God healing people within the culture?

They also referenced similar testimonies from South Africa during another visit with Tighteyex.

What makes the moment even more interesting is that on June 14, 2024, Tighteyex publicly declared in a YouTube video that krumpers would be healed — and many now believe they are witnessing the manifestation of those words.

Since then, Deiby has remained off crutches and later wrote Eyex saying he has recently been going to church, worshipping God, and feels a peace he says he has never experienced before in his life. ❤️🙏

For years, many people have said Krump saved their lives.

And Tighteyex has never been afraid to say that Krump is more than dance — but a dance of the spirit, a form of worship that comes from God.

Do you believe God is moving through a small #streetdance culture like Krump to bring healing and transformation?

Drop your thoughts below and share this post. 👁️🔥
