The folk festival of 'Kojagra' in the Mithila region was initiated by King Janaka. The Mithila Kojagara festival is primarily associated with Sita—the princess and daughter of Mithila—and her husband, the son-in-law of Mithila. On the day of Kojagra, Goddess Sita—revered as Mahalakshmi—visits her maternal home in Mithila. follow @mithila_heritage She wanders through her ancestral abode, partakes of local delicacies such as *paan* (betel leaf), *makhan* (fox nuts), curd, and *chura* (flattened rice), and subsequently returns to her own realm. Following this, the immersion (*visarjan*) of Goddess Durga takes place. 'Kojagari Purnima' is a significant festival within the Maithil Hindu tradition; it is also known as 'Mithila Kojagra', 'Kojagari Lakshmi Puja', and 'Sharad Purnima'.In Mithila, there is a tradition of worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and keeping an overnight vigil on this day. According to Maithil religious beliefs, Goddess Lakshmi descends to Earth on this night and bestows the blessing of happiness and prosperity upon those who stay awake and worship her. This festival is associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and the tradition of staying awake throughout the night of Sharad Purnima. It is believed that on this night, Goddess Lakshmi descends to Earth and asks, "Who is awake?" The Sanskrit phrase "Ko Jagarti" means "who is awake," and the name "Kojagari" is thought to be derived from this.According to another religious belief, this festival is also linked to the 'Raas Leela' of Lord Krishna. In the Bhagavata tradition, the night of Sharad Purnima holds special significance.

The traditional Tirhuta script (also known as Mithilakshar), which is the ancient indigenous script used for writing the Maithili language Maithili people use this script for Sanskrit language as well .follow @mithila_heritage The script has a history dating back to around the 7th century AD (with early inscriptions found on Mandar Hill and Sahodara) and belongs to the same family of Brahmic scripts as Bengali and Assamese. It was officially added to the Unicode Standard (Version 7.0) in June 2014.Purpose: To raise awareness, hold workshops, and train people in reading and writing Mithilakshar to prevent the script from fading into obscurity against the more commonly used Devanagari script.
