Pro surfer @harrybryant has a garage full of “magic boards” and a perfectly reasonable explanation that any nerd can appreciate.

“It’s like Harry Potter and his wand.”

Behind that comparison is a relationship worth knowing about: the surfer and the shaper who makes his boards. One brings the craft of building them; the other discovers what’s possible once they hit the water.

You can appreciate the wave without knowing any of this. But knowing who helped make it possible gives you something else to watch.

In typical fashion…the trip has gone a little off course and we’re taking a minor detour. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

Last November, I had the privilege to meet @jae_bella founder of @intrsxtn_surf a community for Black women and women of color in Los Angeles.

Of all the stories I’ve had the privilege to be a part of, this one is one of my favorites — as I was able to really spend time with the subjects in their element.

I’m humbly grateful to Jessa and this group of women who invited me to enter their safe space for the day. Not only did they share their story for @ebonymagazine we were able to capture these beautiful images by the talented @bexxfrancois

Special thanks to @corimurray for her support helping see it to the finish line.

The story is available at EBONY.com and is worth a read.

Boston dangled the former Finals MVP Jaylen Brown across the league and may have messed around and let the monster loose in Philadelphia 😳
