OCTOBER 25, 1977 - THE DAY BORIKUAS SEIZED LIBERTY. 🇵🇷

On this day, 30 fearless Borikuas did what the empire said was impossible. They seized the Statue of Liberty and hung the Puerto Rican flag where the world could see it.

Why? To demand the freedom of our political prisoners and to tell America: YOU CANNOT PRETEND WE DON’T EXIST.

They called Lady Liberty a hypocrite. How can you preach liberty while you hold Puerto Rico as a colony? They blindfolded her with our flag because true liberty in America is blind to Borikua.

This wasn’t a protest. This was a SEIZURE. This was Borikua Power taking the symbol of false freedom and making it tell the truth.

They teach you American history in school. They never taught you THIS history. Why do you think that is?

We didn’t ask for Liberty. We SEIZED it. And we will again.

QUE VIVA PUERTO RICO LIBRE. Pa’lante Borikua Power! ✊🏿🇵🇷

Let’s settle this once and for all.

BORIKUA IS A RACE.

Indigenous means NATIVE TO THE LAND. Taíno = Native to Borikén. Period.

Go check a U.S. Government form. U.S. Census. Job application. Under RACE it says: White, Black, Asian, and AMERICAN INDIAN / ALASKA NATIVE.

Under U.S. Law — Indigenous IS a race.

They told you Puerto Rican is not a race. They lied to erase us.

We are not Hispanic. We are not a color. We are a RACE. A Borikua race.

If you’re Borikua, you’re Indigenous. You’re Native. And you’re a race of people.

“A LOT OF PEOPLE LIVE IN PUERTO RICO, BUT DON’T LIVE FOR PUERTO RICO.”

I said what I said. Let it cook.

Living ON the island doesn’t automatically mean you’re fighting FOR the island.

And living OFF the island doesn’t mean you’re less Borikua.

I’ve met people in Borikén who will sell out our land, our beaches, our people to the highest gringo bidder just to make a dollar.

And I’ve met Borikuas in New York, Philly, Orlando who haven’t been home in 10 years but wake up every single day fighting for liberation, for our language, for our flag.

So the question is not WHERE do you live.
The question is WHO do you live FOR?

Do you live for the colonizer? Or do you live for Puerto Rico?

Some of y’all live IN Puerto Rico but your heart, your wallet, your loyalty lives in Washington.

I live in diaspora but my SOUL lives in Borikén. Always has. Always will.

If this triggered you, ask yourself why.

Do you agree or disagree? Let’s debate in the comments respectfully. 👇🏽

READ THIS TWICE. 👇🏽

To all Puerto Ricans that can’t speak Spanish, it’s ok...

Our Ancestors didn’t speak Spanish either.

LET THAT COOK. 🍲🔥

Before 1493 we spoke TAÍNO.
Spanish was forced on us. English was forced on us. The language was COLONIZED, not our identity.

They made you feel less Borikua because you can’t roll your R’s?
They made you feel like a “gringo” because you were born in New York, Chicago, Orlando?

Nah.

You are not less Puerto Rican because you speak English.
You are Puerto Rican because you carry the blood, the struggle, the resistance, the sazón, the spirit of a people they COULD NOT KILL.

Your abuela’s abuela didn’t speak Spanish either. She spoke the language of the land, the rivers, the coquí.

So stop letting people gatekeep YOUR flag. 🇵🇷

If this hit you in your chest, I know why. You been waiting for someone to say it.

TAG A BORIKUA WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS. Let them know they are ENOUGH.

TODAY IS GO PURPLE DAY. 💜 OCTOBER 15TH.

We wear purple for the ones who didn’t make it out.
We wear purple for the ones who DID.
We wear purple for the ones still figuring out how to leave.

Domestic Violence is NOT love. Control is NOT love. Jealousy is NOT love. Real love doesn’t leave bruises on your body or your spirit. Real love is what you see in this second picture. Safe. Soft. Respected.

We stand with every survivor, especially our Borikua sisters. As Borikua men, we have to be the example. We protect, we don’t harm. PERIOD.

If you are going through it, you are NOT alone. We see you. We believe you.

DROP 💜 IN THE COMMENTS FOR EVERY SURVIVOR.

Today is not Columbus Day.
Today is a survival story.

Before there was Puerto Rico, there was BORÍKUA.
The First Nation of the Caribbean.

They taught you we were extinct so you would never look for us in the mirror. But look. We are still here. In your blood, in your spirit, in your resistance.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day to my Taino people who never disappeared.

We are not Hispanic. We are INDIGENOUS.

Drop 🇵🇷 if you still carry the Taino bloodline.
