Fundamentals are where performance is built.

Two days with Dover PD focused on refining the fundamentals, applying them under pressure, and building skills that translate beyond the range.

The work is in the details. Refine the foundation, build efficiency, and continue to perform at a higher level.

Next up: Pistol Performance at @the_freedom_shack October 24–25.

Train. Refine. Perform. Repeat.

Blaze X - head shots only.
For this drill, we counted the entire box above the target shoulders. All the shots on this run were inside with the exception of one ear burner that caught the edge.
Thanks for the great drill, Pat! We had a great time! A great training value for thinking, shooting and moving.

Pistol Performance at Big Tex Range | Conroe, Texas.

Two days. 16 hours. Different experience levels. One standard: deliberate performance.

The students spent the weekend building the pieces that allow speed to become repeatable.

Entries and exits. Establishing the base. Managing movement into and out of position. Getting the gun up, driving the gun to the next position, and learning to recognize the exact moment the visual confirmation is there.

Visual confirmation is not simply “seeing the target.” It is the shooter processing the target and the sighting system together, recognizing an acceptable sight picture as the dot or reticle crosses the intended point of aim, and immediately transitioning from confirmation to execution.

The objective is to eliminate unnecessary movement and hesitation.

Move with purpose.
Settle the base.
Get the gun up.
Drive the gun.
Confirm the visual.
Execute.
Transition.

As the weekend progressed, you could see the students begin to connect those individual pieces into one efficient process.

Different backgrounds. Different skill levels. Men and women. Newer shooters, experienced shooters, USPSA competitors, and Master Class shooters.

Everyone had something to build.

That is what Pistol Performance is about.

Not simply shooting faster.

Understanding the process that allows you to shoot faster without sacrificing the fundamentals that make performance repeatable.

Big thanks to every student who showed up ready to work, accept coaching, and push their own skill set forward. Check out @redolder918 x @spectrum_splits putting in the work!

@kylie0cat x @skyrush05 also put in the work! More highlights coming!

You can’t always get to the range.

Weather, work, travel, life. Sometimes live fire just isn’t an option.

That doesn’t mean the training stops.

Dry fire gives us an opportunity to isolate the fundamentals and put meaningful repetitions behind them. Draws. Presentation. Grip. Visual patience. Transitions. Reloads. Movement. The goal is to make efficient movement repeatable without having to think through every individual step.

Repetition doesn’t replace live fire. It builds the foundation that live fire exposes.

Establish a baseline. Track it. Refine it. Then pressure test it on the range.

Consistency isn’t about having perfect training every day.

It’s about continuing to train when conditions aren’t perfect.

Do the work. Build the reps. Stay consistent.

Happy Labor Day, folks 🛠️

Today is about you. The people who open early and close late. The nurses, the farmers, the long haulers, the teachers, the sanitation crews, the servers, the construction crews, ALL of the folks who put in a full week and then put in a full weekend at home too. The work never ends.

You work hard. You’ve earned the rest.

To the man next to me in this photo, thank you. A humbling reminder that I don’t have those hard “goodbyes” with my family anymore. Our freedom comes at a very heavy price. Be safe and see you down the road, brother.

To all the service members and first responders who are working today so the rest of us can take the day off — thank you. ❤️

Rest up, KC. You deserve it. 🇺🇸

- Hank

Stage 4 | Area 8 | Sponsored by @rugersofficial

This was a stage where body mechanics, stabilization, and efficient footwork mattered.

With every Major, I’m getting closer and closer to putting together a truly clean run and collecting all the points available.

Accuracy and speed aren’t opposites. They directly align when your movement, body mechanics, and gun work together.

Keep building. Keep pushing. Keep the momentum rolling into my First appearance at Race Gun Nats

MOVEMENT IS A SKILL. NOT JUST SOMETHING WE DO BETWEEN POSITIONS.

In USPSA, we spend a lot of time talking about the gun.

Grip. Draw. Recoil. Transitions. Splits.

But the gun is only moving as well as the body carrying it.

Movement is where we can start utilizing the entire system.

Your feet create the movement.
Your legs create the drive.
Your hips help direct the body.
Your core keeps the system connected.
Your eyes tell you where you need to go.
And your hands keep the gun stable while all of it is happening.

The goal isn’t simply to move faster.

The goal is to move with purpose.

Accelerate when you need to accelerate.
Decelerate before you need to shoot.
Keep your eyes ahead of your body.
Let the gun arrive with you instead of trying to drag it into position after you stop.

Athleticism matters.

The better you understand how your body moves, the more efficiently you can move with a gun in your hands.

This is why I train outside of shooting.

Box jumps. Sprints. Martial arts. Boxing. Strength. Mobility.

Not because USPSA is a fitness competition.

Because when the stage demands acceleration, deceleration, balance, direction changes, and control, I want my body to already understand those movements.

Don’t just practice moving with a gun.

Learn how to move.

Then learn how to make the gun move with you.

Train the athlete.
Train the shooter.
Put the two together.

Texas September 19-20th @bigtexrange we are doing just that! Two days of Performance based shooting and moving!

Class is live on the website with 6 slots remaining

Train. Perform. Evolve.

This weekend everything flowed.

Friday night at Parma I shot a practice shoot.

Saturday Freedom Ranch for 3rd Combined Overall

Today was an All Classifier match at @arrowconcepts_trainingcenter where I shot 3rd Combined Overall and walked away Classifying up from A to M Class.

I shot 97% at Freedom Ranch and 98% today!

Had a great talk with @monsoon_tactical which helped me understand where I needed to be today. Shot consistent and now we head into Area 5 this week. Followed by Area 8 next and @digital_r.o.e 2 day Pistol Performance course.

This industry, this sport demands a lot from you, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Weak hand work doesn’t have to stop when the gun runs dry.

Working a one-handed reload by hitting the mag release with my middle finger as I break the gun off line, keeping it in my support hand the entire time. Is it a common USPSA scenario? Not really. But weak-hand classifiers, awkward positions, or unexpected problems happen.

Dry fire is where I test ideas, refine mechanics, and build consistency. This is one method I’ve found that works for me, and another way to get meaningful reps outside of live fire.
