The photo was taken by then-18-year-old Joel Bernstein in June, 1970 at the📍northwest corner of Sullivan Street and West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, along the side wall of NYU Law School's Vanderbilt Hall.

The original, uncropped photograph includes Graham Nash (of the group Crosby, Stills, & Nash) standing to the side, who was cropped out of the final album cover.

Bernstein intended to capture the elderly woman passing Young, but he accidentally focused the lens a bit too far back toward the fence.

To mask the soft focus and graininess, he solarized the print.

Neil Young loved the resulting eerie, otherworldly dimension it added.

Gary Burden handled the album's art direction and stripped in extra bricks above the fence line to accommodate the album title placement.

The music on the album was inspired by the unproduced apocalyptic Dean Stockwell and Herb Bermann screenplay titled After the Gold Rush (1970).

The screenplay was a surreal, bleak story centered on an ecological disaster—specifically a massive earthquake and flood in California that wipes out a hippie community in Topanga Canyon.

Universal Studios ultimately rejected the project, and the film was never made.

Young was living as a neighbor to Stockwell in Topanga Canyon at the time.

After reading the surreal screenplay, Young used it as a thematic blueprint for his third solo studio album, envisioning his songs as a sort of soundtrack to the unmade film.

A decade later, Young and Stockwell finally brought their shared apocalyptic vision to the screen by co-directing and collaborating on the 1982 absurdist comedy film Human Highway.

🎵 Various Artists — Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More (1970)

With Woodstock, this legendary triple album captured the sound and spirit of the most famous music festival in rock history. Released in 1970 from performances recorded at Woodstock in August 1969, it brings together some of the defining artists of the counterculture era and preserves the raw atmosphere of those historic three days.

⭐ Essential tracks :

Jimi Hendrix — Star Spangled Banner

Joe Cocker — With a Little Help from My Friends

Santana — Soul Sacrifice

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — Sea of Madness

🎧 What does it sound like ?

A vibrant journey through psychedelic rock, blues rock, folk, soul, and raw live improvisation. The performances aren't polished like studio recordings — you hear the energy of the musicians, the crowd, stage announcements, and the atmosphere of the festival itself, making the album feel like a genuine document of 1969.

💿 Why is this vinyl a classic ?

• The legendary soundtrack documenting the 1969 Woodstock festival.

• Originally released as an ambitious triple-LP set in 1970.

• Features iconic performances from Jimi Hendrix, Santana, The Who, Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and more.

• More than a compilation, it's a musical snapshot of the late-1960s counterculture and one of rock history's defining events.

🏆 My collector's rating :

10/10 — A legendary piece of rock history.

Woodstock isn't simply an album — it's a time capsule. The imperfections, improvisations, crowd noise, and incredible live performances transport you directly back to one of the most important moments in popular music history.

Spinning the original triple vinyl from beginning to end is a real journey through the sound of an entire generation. An essential record for any collector of classic rock, psychedelic music, and legendary live performances. ☮️🌸🎸🔥🎤💿✨

In the Court of the Crimson King es dramático, denso y experimental; Harvest es directo, cálido y terrenal.
