August 10, 2023. 17 months before she would be free of her ALS. 3 years ago today.

This moment will always be powerful to me as it was my mother’s “Gethsemane moment”.

My LA chosen family, full of liberals and queers, many of whom still love Jesus, put together an amazing benefit for my mom as she faced ALS.

@paulplata put his heart and soul into this rendition of Promises by @maverickcitymusic

And when “this cup” did not pass from her, she put her trust in God yet again.

It healed her mother’s heart for this moment to happen from the community she was entrusting her baby boy too.

Thank you to @dhernandezmusic for leading the charge when my grief wouldn’t give me the strength too.

Thank you to every artist that came and gave of your time that night. My whole family holds this experience dear to them as holy and precious.

Rain - Faultlines || “There’s a man in a big White House trying to take your voice away…” I really wish this song wasn’t still relevant today- but I think @thejohnflanagan could write infinite verses for this song, and they’d all be bangers! The verse he added this time was: “no human is illegal on the land we stole away…”👏🏼 || @officialfaultlines

Okay y’all - I have a lot to say, and this might get sappy, so bear with me. Last week @officialfaultlines put on a benefit concert for @chirla_org (the coalition for humane immigrant rights) an organization that advocates for human rights of immigrants and refugees. In other words, a very worthy cause that we need right now (and always). They raised over 13k. Not only is Faultlines (and friends) an incredible mix of talented musicians and songwriters, but they are some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. If you scroll to the end of this post, you will see my first picture with the original trio (@thejohnflanagan @imashleymorgan @toddmccool) which was taken at my 21st birthday party. Which was almost 11 (ELEVEN) years ago. Time is not real. Since then, they have expanded their repertoire and have introduced me to even more talented and kind musicians. I am forever grateful for that little California Adventure show (Mad T Party) for not only bringing them together, but introducing me to them. So yeah…that’s all I have to say I will stop now 😅🫶🏼

Wooden Bridges - Faultlines || @officialfaultlines hosted a benefit concert for @chirla_org last week and it was incredible! They raised 13k and it was an awesome night of music and love, which is exactly what I needed with the last few weeks I’ve had || #fautlines #woodenbridges #telephonephilosophies #chirla
