R.I.P. Derrick Harriott. Such a huge influence on my friends @alexdesertwashere and @truedestony from @officialhepcat & @malik_the_freq_official from @ocean11_band & @shakespeareblk and it carried into @thelionsreggae so heavily that we covered his classic “The Loser” for our friends at @nyctrust a few years back. Much love to the Harriott family. May Derricks music live on forever.

Fans of @suedeheadband have kept the faith for many years now, and today is the day that faith pays off, because Let the Song Sell Itself - the first BRAND NEW recordings from the Southern California soul-punks in well over a decade - is OUT NOW, on all major streaming platforms and everywhere fine soul platters are sold! With the release of their discography collection Constant Frantic Motion in 2018, a joint release between @piratespressrecords & @simba_records_and_zine, fans could be forgiven for thinking the book was being closed on Suedehead. In 2026, we are thrilled to say, Let Song Sell Itself features two BRAND NEW original songs from Suedehead. Originally formed as a soul-oriented side project by singer, songwriter, and producer @daveyboywarsop (@sharpshock, Beat Union, @thebandnot), a diverse all-star band came together featuring seasoned players whose pedigree ranges from West Coast ska & reggae legends @officialhepcat & @theaggrolites to deathrock pioneers @tsol_official! Tours, Coachella, electrified audiences, a trio of 7” records, and a collection LP, and that was all she wrote for this beloved band. Until today! The brand new songs “Let the Song Sell Itself” & “Life at the Top” are here to fill dance floors all over again, alongside live recordings of fan-favorites “I Believe in Love” & “Can’t Stop,” from their triumphant set supporting new wave legends @theb52sband! The legendary @trojan_records_official says today is National Ska Day! So who are we to argue?? In my humble opinion, Southern California has contributed some of the best modern ska to the canon! Here is just a drop in the bucket of the impact that the great bands, fans, and overall aesthetic of the Southern California scene has had on this great music we all love! “No Worries” menjadi salah satu nomor ikonik @officialhepcat lagu dari album ketiga Hepcat “Right on Time” yang dirilis pada 1998 melalui @hellcatrecords , saat itu merupakan imprint dari @epitaphrecords yang didirikan @timtimebomb (Rancid) didukung oleh pendiri Epitaph, @brettgurewitz (Bad Religion) pada 1997. Kehadiran Hepcat di Hellcat Records membawa akar ska, rocksteady, dan reggae tradisional ke dalam ekosistem independen Epitaph, sementara video “No Worries” sendiri mendapat pendanaan dari Epitaph. On Tuesday nights, we celebrate #TurntableTuesday by giving some of the incredible vinyl from @piratespress a spin on our decks here at PPHQ! Let's look at what we were spinning last night! We are so excited for Let the Song Sell Itself, the upcoming EP featuring the first brand new recordings by @suedeheadband in years! As anticipation builds for the new release, we dug into the @piratespressrecords archives to give the band's collection album Constant Frantic Motion - and its companion 7" - another spin! Constant Frantic Motion was a 2018 co-release with our Pirates Family at @simba_records_and_zine, which brought together the material from all three of these California soul-punks' previous 7" EPs onto one LP. The LP was packaged in a gorgeous gatefold jacket along with a bonus 7" featuring one additional original song, plus covers of the Spencer Davis Group & Fugazi!
