🎬 WHAT A NIGHT, CHARLESTON! Our latest Charleston Film Network Screener Club was a huge success, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who showed up to support local film. We packed the evening with three locally made shorts — What a Beautiful Wedding, I’ll Take Care of You, and Sealed with a Kiss — followed by conversations with the filmmakers themselves. But just as important as what happened on screen was what happened around it: filmmakers meeting filmmakers, new connections being made, conversations continuing between screenings, and our community showing up for each other. A huge thank-you to Michael Smallwood, Taiyen Stevenson, and Zachary W. Weaver for sharing their work and giving us a look behind the scenes during our Q&As. Special thanks to Ann Simmons and Park Circle Community Center for helping us create a home for this event, and to Butter Chicken, Da Kajun Xpress, and Sweet Butt Not So Sweet for keeping everyone fed throughout the night! And finally, thank you to our CFN team, volunteers, filmmakers, and every single person who came through the doors. So far, everyone I have posted about has been a person that I have worked with frequently in the past in a capacity adjacent to their role on 'Sealed with a Kiss'. However, Chris Cook is one of the few people on set who I've never worked with in their preferred professional role, but I knew from the moment I saw his audition. He not only understood the assignment, but was passionate about it. Two qualities that I couldn't have appreciated more on this Production. I was blown away by his professionalism, engagement, good nature and humor a true blessing of a person to be around. Not just me, but everyone else would light up when he was around bringing an upbeat energy to even the most stressful of Production moments. The subtle dynamics he brings to this character allow for the humor to bloom in a way that reminds me of the late, great Leslie Nielson. That's not even getting into the chemistry between him and Mark something that's best observed through watching the short! Every take with Chris allowed for something fresh and new to be brought forward, making it incredibly difficult to pick my favorites in post production. Truly an embarrassment of riches in the performance delivered on screen. The words in this post do not do Chris Cook enough justice, so the last thing I'll say is thank you Chris. Your range as an actor is known to me and I can't wait to work with you again, so that we can demonstrate that to the whole world. Good luck with what you create next brother because I know everyone should be keeping an eye on you for when you blow up!

Thank you so much for everyone that came out to the @charlestonfilmnetwork screener event yesterday I was so happy to finally see sealed with a kiss on a big screen, and I couldn’t have been happier about the reception or the show out. We missed those of you that couldn’t make it yesterday, but your hard work was appreciated by the whole crowd I received constant praise for it, and that praise deserves to be shared by all of the people in the above photo and all of the people who couldn’t make it. 🎬 Meet the Filmmaker: Zachary W. Weaver Producer, Director & Writer of Sealed with a Kiss Zachary W. Weaver is a Charleston-based sound mixer, first-time director, and Community Manager for the Charleston Film Network. His passion for storytelling began around the D&D table and, in his words, has “grown out of control ever since.” Always eager to help other creatives bring their ideas to life, Sealed with a Kiss marks Zachary’s first time taking one of his own stories from the page to the screen. At the heart of his work is a simple goal: make people laugh and, hopefully, make someone’s dark day a little brighter. 💋 Sealed with a Kiss is a comedy short following a man on the hunt for a demon of desire and the question of what exactly he’ll do once he catches him. No one needs me to tell them that Mark Gallo is an incredibly hardworking and talented actor because, as proof of his tenacity, most of us have had the pleasure of working with him. What I can say, since this was my first time as a Director working with Mark on a creative level, is that my respect ratcheted even higher after we were finished. He had such honest feedback that made the script better and better with each passing discussion and through that never once did I feel that Mark was anything but on my side. He was always incredibly respectful! Every time we would press record, Mark would deliver a unique, interesting and funny performance that genuinely made it a tough time picking through and finding my favorites to share with you all. He is overflowing with a charisma that isn’t just visible on screen, but felt by every other cast and crew member, from the start until the very end. Mark, as always, you delivered gold on a silver platter with a plethora of choice on top of that. Words do not even begin to describe how much I appreciate your passion and for being generous enough to lend me your time, expertise and talent. God Bless you, Mark and I ccn’t wait to see what you have coming next!!

Cheyenne has been around for me since the very beginning of my film career starting 6 years ago. I have seen her Act, Direct, and work in Costumes in everything from Indie to Union shows and have been phenomenally impressed by her talent and work ethic. I've had the pleasure of working with Cheyenne in a crew capacity and she has saved me many times with the work that I needed to accomplish. So much so, that I have referred to her as my Sound Utility on several occasions. So when the time came and she accepted being my Costume Designer for Sealed I knew I wanted to make her life as easy as possible as she had done for me in the past so many times and her response was, "Don't even worry about it. I'll take care of it." and she showed up with jaw dropping costumes that bring the spirit of Supernatural to life in a way I wouldn't have dared to hope. The short amount of time these costumes are on screen and the photos I have do minimal justice to the detail, imagination and execution for what, in my mind, was a very loose concept that she tightened up and made her own. Thank you Cheyenne. You are living proof of how costumes department are unsung heroes! However, on the topic of her directing, make sure you check out THE ROT when she releases it!
