a week in the life of an author: manila int’l book fair 2026 edition 💕 always honored to be invited, and deeply grateful to everyone who showed up as walking proof that literature will always be loved (heard this year was a record breaker—that’s a lot of love) 🥹🫶

Today’s journey made me genuinely glad and happy. Along the way, I got to see so many readers—and somehow, it reminded me that marami pa rin palang nagbabasa, at marami pa ring gustong magbasa.

Sa panahon ngayon na halos lahat ay nasa phone—endlessly scrolling, swiping from one social media platform to another—nakakatuwang makita na may mga taong pinipiling huminto sandali, magbukas ng libro, at maglaan ng oras para magbasa.

Sana, gawin nating bagong norm ang pagbabasa. Hindi naman kailangang laging maraming libro ang matapos. Minsan, sapat nang magsimula sa isang pahina, isang kuwento, o isang ideyang may maiiwan sa atin.

Mas nakaka-inspire din makita na mas marami na ring Filipino authors ang patuloy na nagsusulat at nagkukuwento. Because every Filipino story being written is a reminder that may pag-asa pa ang wika natin, at may pag-asa pa ang bayan natin.

Dahil ang pagsusulat at pagkukuwento ay hindi lamang tungkol sa paglikha ng isang magandang story. It is also a way of preserving who we are—our culture, our history, our language, and our roots.

Kaya patuloy tayong magbasa. Patuloy tayong magsulat. Patuloy tayong magkuwento.

Dahil habang may mga kuwentong atin na patuloy nating binabasa at isinusulat, patuloy ding nabubuhay ang kultura at pagkakakilanlan natin.

And perhaps, that is where hope begins.
Sa isang libro. Sa isang kuwento. Sa isang mambabasa. ☺️

here’s a quick recap of my experience at the @manilabookfair #mibf2026 🤓 (ka grabe ba ang dami ng tao!)

we got there early, and my first order of business was to visit the @myavenidaph booth because i know from firsthand experience that the lines for payment could get real crazyyy!

then, had to squeeze my way through the @officialpsicom booth as well to get 2 books off my list.

quickly made my way through the floor to also buy the first volume of maharlika (which came highly, highly recommended by so many friends) and @manunulatmambabasa’s latest work!

very strategic, yes, but hours were spent trying to stay alive—apaka daming tao akala ko di ako makakalabas ng humihinga. 😂

as much as i wanted to avoid the bigger crowds, i had to also check out the @nationalbookstore, @_fullybooked, and @komiketph booths. as expected, there was like twice the number of people, but we pushed forward. 😂

i ended up with a few more books than expected (wala talaga siyang self-control), but quick disclaimer: the teen titans dc comics, were from fully booked gateway, and the 🔥 nightwing comic is actually from @comicodyssey!

at the komiket booth, i knew i also had to support @differenceenginesg and so after having learned about some of their works, i ended up getting myself a copy of afterlife (the copies i have of delay and magical sweet gula were generously gifted by their team, and i can’t wait to share it with the BU fam!)

when we did a second sweep of the 2nd floor, i saw @kapitantambay’s booth and immediately fell in love with his insanely awesome xmen art!! tried to come back to get a cyclops sticker too, but my legs were already failing me at this point. 😂

so… ayun. hindi ko rin alam ano nangyari, it’s like i was possessed or something. 🤓

was lucky enough to get a few of my books signed by the authors — maraming salamat kina sir nal, sir @erikpingol, at sir @rexyfromearth for thoughtfully signing my books (awow naman si konyo?) always happy to be supporting filipino authors!

first time attending a book event with my high school barkada. ang saya pala, kasi halos pare-pareho kaming nabudol. 😂 always very happy to be catching up (?) with these folks!
