Still just coming back from a niggle, working my way into peak fitness with a race here and there to keep me honest. I loved having a more conservative racing plan that reflected my current fitness. I was still absolutely spent by the end of the race but unlike most races I do, I didn’t cook myself earlier because my coach and I thought the conservative option was smarter given my recent niggles.

This approach was actually so fun and enjoyable I love nothing more than a fast kickdown and although I said I wanted the last two kms to be sub 3.10km pace I always have high expectations and am actually really happy with the pace. We haven’t been doing speed work and my fitness always needs improving so between all of that, I’m happy with the effort.

Episode 03 of Road to WA Women’s Track Night is Out!

This series will bring you stories from four women who will be running in the inaugural WA Women’s Track Night.

In this episode we’re joined by two more participants taking part in just under two weeks’ time and also chat to Michelle from The Digestion Co about all things nutrition and fueling for runners.

Victoria Burrows-Bilton is a mum of four, triathlon teacher and head coach of Girls Like Us Performance. Originally from Yorkshire, Vic was a competitive cross-country and track runner back in the UK before moving into triathlon and longer-distance events. It’s been around 20 years since Vic’s last track race, so WA Women’s Track Night has inspired her to dust off the interval sessions and get back on the track.

Angela Boys grew up surrounded by marathon runners and spent plenty of Sundays at WAMC events as a kid. But rather than follow in the family footsteps, she rebelled against running! It wasn’t until after the birth of her second son in 2023 that she properly caught the bug, finding running became her much needed ‘me time’. This year she’s chasing the WAMC Half Marathon Slam Dunk Medal and joining us for her first-ever track race.

This training series is brought to you by the WA Women’s Track Night, a celebration of women’s running and the community around it. An inclusive event designed to empower women to get on the track. It all happens on Saturday the 24th October at the WA Athletics Stadium from 5pm featuring races under lights, a DJ, food trucks plus much more - creating a real festival atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to come down - so head on down to lift up women’s running in WA. The WA Women’s Track Night is possible thanks to the support of presenting partner RecLab, and our community partners Ogging, Pentanet, Tyack & Co, and supporting partners the Town of Cambridge and Athletics West.

This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. I honestly believe that life is way too short not to be chasing your dreams and living life to your fullest potential.
As a single mum I can fully appreciate that it might not be the season to chase big dreams. I’ve been separated for 2.5 years and only now have I decided to chase mine. For the past 2.5 years I’ve been barely getting through the days.
As any parent knows life with little ones is hectic, let alone doing it solo. However I still maintain that just because it’s not your time yet, or it isn’t quite the season to be following your dreams, that the time won’t come for you to start finding yourself and remembering who you are as an individual, not just a parent.
I only hope that my journey will inspire you and give you the strength that you need to stay afloat until one day you’ll realise that your time has come. I know it will ❤️🫶🏼 and I’m not saying that being a parent is not a dream for me, it is. I love it more than anything, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to achieve other things and still have an identity outside of being a mum. If you can relate please follow along and support me through this new chapter, it would mean the world.

Welcome to Episode 01 of Road to WA Women’s Track is Out! This series will bring you stories from four women who will be running in the inaugural WA Women’s Track night, hear about their running journeys and how they came to enter this event. Over the course of the series, we’ll also hear from physio and sports nutrition and fueling experts along the way and chat to our awesome presenting partner for the track night Pete from RecLab.

In this episode we meet the first two of our participants Jess and Nikita. Jess has represented Australia in the Backyard Ultra scene and came second in the Delirious WEST 100 miler in 2022. Life looks a bit different now with Jess recently becoming a mum and the WA Women’s Track Night will be her first race back.

Nikita Fredonnet is an elite surf lifesaver turned runner, taking out the 2023 Transcend 65km and strong performances in UTA. Nikita joins us fresh off the UTMB 100 miler in Chamonix.

We’re also joined by Savannah Rayner, Vici’s partner in crime behind the WA Women’s Track Night as well as WARP’s favourite physio Ella Eastaugh who shares her insights on training load and strength work for women runners.

3:00:53- came for the sub 3, not quite there today.

53 fkn seconds.

Although I missed the goal, I’m proud of that run on a bloody tough course. A 17 minute Mara PB, a lot of pain and cramping, but a happy man. The aerobic fitness is 100% there to run something a lot faster, so let’s get these cramps under control.

Extremely stoked and proud of the boys @_lee.hutchins_ @_seanstuart both sneaking under the 3 hour mark.

As always, I wouldn’t even be remotely close to this level of fitness without the goat @burrowsman @oggingtc

None of this would be even remotely possible without my number 1 supporter @grace_marland , I’ll be cashing in those back tickles.

Week 4 - 95km

Last two sessions in Iten:
2 x 2km | 4 x 1km | 4 x 500m
30 min threshold

Then two final runs in Doha on the way home, where the heat absolutely cooked me 🥵.

Four weeks training, a couple of kms ticked off and a pretty unreal experience.

Iten is a special place. The training environment is obviously world class, but it’s the people and the community that make it what it is.

Very grateful for the people I met, the sessions shared and everything I got out of these four weeks.

Definitely won’t be my last time here
