TGIF! It’s the last weekend of FLOWERS FEST! Tonight, we’re giving you some unexpected acts together! We are introducing an art form having its first time here! Lineup of extra-extraordinary artists below:

1 Self-taught artist, DARIUS (@OGpopzIG)CARTER, creates art as a form of therapy and was introduced to art by his mother and studied art at Texas Southern University under professors: Dr. Alvia Wardlaw, Leamon Green and Harvey L. Johnson. Art Spaces that have acquired Carter’s Artwork are: ART IS BOND. Gallery, Bishop Gallery, Hogan Brown Gallery and University Museum at Texas Southern University.

2 CONRAD CHEUNG (@cheung.conrad is an artist, writer, and educator working across installation, architecture, performance, and video. Their practice constructs counter-systems — spatial, social, and procedural — that make space for illegible and multispecies forms of assembly and refusal.

3 ANDREA MORENO’s (@y0shaang) practice moves through sound, video, sculpture, performance and installation to explore systems of hidden knowledge—what is esoteric, spiritual, and beyond ordinary perception. Influenced by mysticism, speculative fiction, and post-humanist thought, she approaches materials as living collaborators that shift and guide form.

Andrea graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Technology. She graduated with her Master’s in Sound Art at Columbia University.

4 BANANA KETCHUP COMEDY (@bananaketchupcomedy) is a Filipina comedy collective based in New York City, founded by Patricia Dinglasan (@patriciadinglasancomedy) and Kyle Marian (@kylemarian). Their shows often partner with Filipino and Asian-American small businesses, fostering community and laughter alongside good food. They’re best known for starting the Filipino Comedy Festival.

MAKATI COMEDY (@makatishow) is a night market show featuring Filipino fusion tapas fresh out of the
kitchen of comedian chefs Josh Ri’Esgo (@kidjersh) and David Jin (@davidadamjin)

A little behind the scenes of the visual arts activation installation for the #FadeToBlackArtsFest we activated the plaza with sculptures, transformed each theater lobby, brought life to the main gallery, and even pulled back the curtains in Theater One to let the abstract works shine! ✨

I MUST extend my deepest appreciation to all the brilliant artists as well as the Texas Southern University Museum for participating in the visual arts component of the @fade2blackfest Your voices spoke volumes to the excellence of Black creativity, and trust, they were heard. The vision could not have come to life without you! 🖤🎨

Leading this installation while being surrounded by so many vibrant creatives was one of the sweetest experiences of my art career so far. Thank you, @sdoneal12 for the opportunity and trusting me to execute! #WeDidIt 🙌🏾
