Today marks 17 years with diabetes. 1 more year and my diabetes will be considered a full-fledged adult.

If I were to tell newly diagnosed people 1 thing about diabetes, it would be: FIND YOUR COMMUNITY. I struggled in silence for a lot of these 17 years, not because I hid my diagnosis but because I don’t like to ask for help. Now that I’ve been at Beyond Type 1 for 2 years and I work daily with people who get it, I can confidently say my diabetes management has changed for the better.

It absolutely takes a village and it’s ok to admit that you need help, and that you can’t do it alone (because who the hell can???). Just know, I’m proud of you T1Ds out there. We are amazing. 🤍🩸

I’ve been watching a lot of videos by artists and animators, and after one such video yesterday by a veteran Disney animator, a little voice inside said, “that could be me.” Not because of what I can do right now, but because of what I feel interested in practicing. Got me thinking about conversations I’ve had recently and over the years about art, and how my perspective has changed.

So here’s to doing it! Whenever! Whatever! Whyever! Hope you make something!!

A perfect way to end summer! 🎡

Last Friday, the Herbert Program for Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes went to the OC Fair for our monthly “First Friday” gathering! We saw many new and familiar faces, play lots of games and went on some fun rides, as well as tried very delicious fair foods.

Truly an even for the books!
