This week’s #CreativesOnTheCoast is Bournemouth’s @jkwilliams_ , and there’s a good chance you’ve seen his work around town without realising. From his work at Alum Chine to the arches for AUB, Jake’s been adding plenty of colour to some familiar spots. Always nice to find out who’s behind something you’ve walked past and enjoyed. And alongside the local work, he’s got projects for the Paris Olympics, Formula 1, Adobe and Polaroid under his belt too. Not bad, eh? We’ve picked out a few favourites to share here, but head over to @jkwilliams_ for more and show him a bit of local love. Who else should we get to know for the series? Let us know below 👇

It’s begun! 👀 It’s quite interesting to see how decayed the landing stages are underneath all that metal! Here’s a timeline of the stages… • 1855: Construction began on Bournemouth’s very first modest structure—a moveable landing jetty. The first structural pile was driven on 25 August 1855, rushed into development following a rumour that Queen Victoria was planning a visit to the town. The resulting 100-foot wooden jetty was fully completed by 1856. • 1877: A temporary landing stage was built following severe storm damage to the subsequent 1861 wooden pier, allowing pleasure steamboats to continue docking. • 1894: The first major permanent extension to the 1880 iron pier was completed, which included adding new landing facilities. • 1905–1909: The pier was lengthened to over 1,000 feet, and a permanent timber and metal lower-level landing stage was constructed around the exterior of the pier head and neck. • 1979–1981: A massive £1.7 million redevelopment project was launched to combat severe structural corrosion. The old shoreward end construction was demolished and replaced with a new concrete pier neck. This phase also saw the completion of a brand-new, two-storey octagonal entrance building housing a leisure arcade, shops, and the famous Showbar. • 2026: The stages as we know them today. Awaiting removal due to condition.
