While our honeymoon was a dream, taking a spill on day 2 was not ideal😅 I am absolutely fine + we still had a great time and shared beautiful adventures to deeply special places in Brazil. And, lucky for me, not every single one of our photos has to show off that chic road rash!

Here’s what I did in Photoshop Express:
1. Click “Heal” (bottom center)
2. Select “Remove Objects”
3. Adjust your brush size with the slider and paint it on to the object you want to remove…adeus ugly bandaid!🎶

The best part was that I was able to do this all on my phone while we were still traveling. And with @Adobe mobile programs, you don’t sacrifice quality of the editing tool just because you’re on mobile! Now if only I could photoshop the injuries out IRL!!!

Portraits are both my favorite and most difficult to shoot. I don’t like them overly posed, but rather candid and real. Yet not too random or without any “life” or emotions. There has to be this special energy happening between the camera and the person, I guess a certain amount of trust. I want to reduce tension and discomfort to minimum [realistically it can’t be completely eliminated]. At the end of the day I want the person to feel unbothered by me yet a special and unique subject for a photo.

Above are some of my favorite portraits I shot on film between 2023 and 2024.

We are ecstatic to present this week’s Alumni Feature with Donna Mena, a 2020 graduate of CCA’s Master of Advanced Architectural Design (MAAD) Program with a concentration in Urban Works. Donna is currently a full-time freelancer (donnamena.com) exploring a range of interests through a variety of commissioned and self-initiated projects.

What was your favorite thing about being a student at CCA?
I loved learning in an art school. I was given the space and opportunity to explore different mediums and be creative in how I represent my studies. CCA encouraged me to explore my creative voice without fear. It gave me the space to push forward and explore my artistic side with confidence.

What are you doing now, and how did CCA prepare you for your current role?
I recently transitioned into full-time freelancing, which has afforded me the freedom to balance my professional career with personal projects. One such endeavor is SCARF-SCARF—a three-year-old passion project where I merge my loves for graphic design, architecture, and object creation into whimsical scarf creations. This passion project has led to contracting opportunities and even a future book, SCARF-SCARF The BOOK-BOOK! The networking I was able to do at CCA allowed me to connect with folks I’m working with now. It’s amazing how little moments can sometimes lead to something bigger.

before i say goodbye to the year of the Tiger, and all the emotional roller coasters it brought for me; i want to look back at the beautiful photo projects i did and how much joy and inspiration they brought to me.
•
photography has been my passion since my teens, and turned into a career in my early 20’s. in the last few years i barely touched a camera though. i was lacking a creative spark.
•
this summer i was hired to photograph a wedding. it turned out to be one of the most fun days, and it helped me get back to my senses. after that, i did a few other projects, and found photography to be very therapeutic during this time of emotional distress and all-consuming sadness.
•
maybe i am finally ready to re-start my photography career. DM me if you have an exciting project!
