This Bumpa journey would have been impossible without the investment of several people who I’ll shout out at our event today @theplasticclub with @ohyeah.cool

5:30 PM PBS Origins In the Margins Screening
6:15 PM Archival Workshop lead by @knwfilms
6:45 PM Bumpa screening Director/Dancer discussion
8 PM All levels twerk class led by @queenzingaaa
8:30 After party @tavernoncamac

Get your sliding scale donation tix, and Join us at any time tonight for this celebration of empowerment dances, archival of our survival, and one last screening in Philly this year for Bumpa as we continue our international journey.

I normally have to separate my full time work from my personal endeavors, but I am blessed with a chance to share BTS insights from both my @pbsorigins work as a producer and archival researcher, alongside my personal exploration as a Director and producer of Bumpa. I deeply believe in the importance of our narratives, our rebellions, our dances, and I am excited to show you how we wouldn’t be here without all three.

I am eternally grateful for my fellowship with People’s Media Fund and my grant from @scribevideocenter which allowed me to hire a crew and a wonderful editor so I could be fully present for our show In the Margins.

Swipe to see images from our Bumpa journey, the Charles L Blockson collection, and one of our featured heroines, Ona Judge.

Thank you to my wonderful Bumpa cast and crew:

We received such a warm and affirming welcome in Toronto from @caribbeantales @caribbeantalesmediagroup !!!

As audiences at CaribbeanTales watched Bumpa, they were dancing in their seats, nudging one another in familiarity. People born in or descended from various islands across the Caribbean shared mmm’s and ahaaas and giggles as our dancers in Bumpa explored themes of bodily acceptance, community harmony through gathering, and culturally affirming empowerment techniques like twerking and whining. Thank you to everyone who planned this event, programmers, projectionists, volunteers, and my cast and crew!!!

🍁 The insightful films I saw at CaribbeanTales film festival have shifted my perspective. I’m grateful to learn about the theater being performed in Haiti despite it all, the Trini music scene, the stories from across our connected diaspora, including a mesmerizing Bronx tale about community belief. More on that later, after our @ohyeah.cool event 👀👀👀👀

Never would I ever have thought that I would immigrate to a different country, discover being neurodivergent and queer, be a DIY filmmaker getting inspired by abandoned buildings, and have a Q&A and even receive an award! What a wild ride. Thank you so much @ohyeah.cool @theplasticclub for this opportunity.

As an indie filmmaker, you’re usually the marketing department and... well sometimes you don’t always get it right 😂

Also, “Harry Weiner” is a crazy Freudian slip.
