Landscape Architecture Magazine takes a closer look at Downtown Cary Park in its September issue, exploring how the park has become both a beloved public destination and an ongoing experiment in biodiversity, stewardship, and urban ecology.

Designed by OJB, the park transforms the site’s existing topography into a landscape where water, habitat, recreation, and public life work together. Its stormwater system manages runoff from 18 acres, while an exceptionally diverse planting strategy continues to evolve as the park’s horticulture team studies how species perform, adapt, and support wildlife over time.

Since opening in 2023, Downtown Cary Park has also helped demonstrate what investment in landscape can mean for a growing community, with the article reporting a 156 percent increase in visitors to downtown Cary over the three years the park has been open.

We’re honored to see the evolving life of the park featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine and to see how thoughtful design and long term stewardship can continue working together long after opening day.

We’re honored to see Anderson Towers recognized in both the Urban Design and General Design categories of @fastcompany 2026 Innovation by Design Awards.

The project reimagines two aging Los Angeles office towers and their five-acre site as a vibrant urban destination, creating a true workplace in a garden. As cities consider the future of aging buildings and underutilized public spaces, Anderson Towers demonstrates the potential of thoughtful design to transform existing environments into places that better serve people, communities, and the future.

Congratulations to the entire project team and this year’s Innovation by Design honorees.

Landscape architecture is no longer the layer that comes last. It is increasingly becoming the framework from which we design.

@architizer latest feature, “Beyond the Object: How Landscape Architecture Became the Framework for Contemporary Practice”, explores how climate, ecology, water, community, and public life are reshaping the role of landscape architecture within contemporary design.

OJB’s Downtown Cary Park is highlighted as an example of this shift: a landscape that functions simultaneously as civic infrastructure, ecological system, and public destination.

We’re proud to see this work recognized among the broader conversation about where design is headed, and the increasingly essential role landscape plays in shaping it.

Metropolis is one of those rare publications that talks about the way communities grow and thrive, rather than just spotlighting projects and products. Timothy Schuler visited Downtown Cary Park with OJB and Machado Silvetti to learn how the planning process helped create a new center for community with a strengthened downtown. It is no surprise that the park has downtown in its name.

Across the country, we’ve been privileged to work together to plan, program, and design high-performance civic spaces that are engines of economic and social cohesion. Investing and planning for open space as this kind of catalyst is at the heart of what we love to do.

Check out his story on our website, and if you are near the Research Triangle area in North Carolina, stop by the park to see joyful community in action for yourself.

What if an airport could offer more than a place to wait?

At Pittsburgh International Airport, the new UPMC Terrace creates an unexpected moment of connection to the outdoors, inviting travelers and the public to step outside, gather, take in the landscape, and experience the airport in an entirely different way.

Designed by OJB, the 36,000-square-foot terrace brings landscape, architecture, and public experience together in a space designed for more than movement. It offers a moment to pause, connect, and engage with place.

It’s a reminder that some of the most meaningful landscapes are the ones that change how we experience the places we already know.

Anderson Towers has been shortlisted for the 2026 World Landscape Architecture Professional Awards in the Built | Masterplanning & Urban Design category.

This category recognizes projects that shape the future of our cities through thoughtful masterplanning and urban design—from urban regeneration and waterfronts to major commercial districts, ecological networks, and transformative public realms.

At Anderson Towers, landscape serves as the connective tissue between architecture, people, and the surrounding city. The revitalized workplace reimagines two mid-century high-rise towers through a network of meandering pathways, Mediterranean-inspired plantings, and flexible outdoor environments that encourage movement, collaboration, and respite. Technology-integrated terraces, meeting pods, and outdoor workspaces extend the workplace beyond the building envelope, while layered planting softens the transition between public and private space and strengthens the site’s connection to Century City’s evolving urban fabric.

To be shortlisted among this year’s nominees is a meaningful recognition of the project’s contribution to contemporary urban design—demonstrating how landscape architecture can transform existing commercial environments into healthier, more connected, and resilient places. Congratulations to the entire project team and to all of this year’s outstanding nominees.

Warner Bros. Second Century Burbank Studios has been shortlisted for the 2026 World Landscape Architecture Professional Awards in the Built | Commercial Landscape Design category.

This category recognizes outstanding landscape architecture within commercial developments—projects that elevate office environments, mixed-use precincts, retail spaces, and workplace landscapes through design that enriches both people and place.

For Warner Bros. Second Century Burbank Studios, landscape became the foundation of the workplace experience. Despite the constraints of an 800,000-square-foot campus built above an underground parking structure, the design transformed the site into a three-dimensional landscape of planted terraces, courtyards, roof gardens, and accessible pathways. Inspired by the ecology of the San Gabriel Mountains, the landscape integrates native planting, stormwater management, biodiversity, and year-round outdoor workspaces to create a campus where wellness and environmental performance work together.

Achieving WELL Platinum Certification, the project demonstrates how biophilic design can support creativity, flexibility, and connection to nature while setting a new benchmark for sustainable commercial landscapes.

Being shortlisted among this year’s nominees is an honor that recognizes the project’s contribution to advancing landscape architecture on a global stage.
Congratulations to the entire project team and to all of the outstanding firms and designers whose work was recognized in this year’s awards.

We’re honored that the American Airlines Robert L. Crandall Campus has been shortlisted for the World Landscape Architecture Awards in the Built | Commercial Landscape Design category.

Conceived as a conservation-centered campus, the landscape framework restores native Texas ecosystems while prioritizing ecological performance, multimodal connectivity, and human well-being. OJB designed 81 acres of integrated open space, including preserved woodlands, regional trail connections, work-enabled outdoor environments, and active recreation areas that shift circulation from vehicles to pedestrians. The result is a resilient landscape that strengthens biodiversity, encourages daily interaction with nature, and supports collaboration across a campus serving nearly 12,000 employees.

Congratulations to our project partners and all of this year’s shortlisted firms for advancing the practice of landscape architecture through exceptional work.
